6th place in a reloading year wasn't too bad. But I am really glad that we kept the redshirts on a couple freshman. With 2.5 seniors (Johnston at Heavyweight counts I guess) leaving, the lineup will see some shifting for next season. With Penn State having to reload, next year is the year if we are going to do it.

125: Barlow is big, and that is a large question mark. Assuming he can stay at 125, we are all good here. R12 under his belt, he will be hungry to AA next year. Aaron Assad is a capable backup as well.

133: Enter Eierman. Jaydin will be stepping into the lineup here, coming off a 22-2 redshirt year. 133 actually graduated multiple studs, so there will be a power vacuum at the weight. Everything is setting up beautifully for Jaydin to be successful right away. Doubt Synon can make 133 anymore anyways.

141: 141-157 is quite a conundrum. Manley locked down the spot this year, but you never know how people will come back from knee injuries. For now, I will cautiously say he will be the guy. Will Roark had a solid redshirt campaign, and Grant Leeth has proven he can compete. Interesting to see where the chips fall, but a pretty solid group competing here. 141 brings back alot, so it will be a tough weight.

149: Mayes or Lavalle. Not sure who goes where, but I'd bet Mayes stays at 149 and Lavalle at 157. Obviously there have been talks about flip-flopping, but I'm tapping the brakes on that one. Both weights will be in very capable hands. Mayes should AA again in a relatively weak weight.

157: Lavalle assuming. Joey has alot of experience under his belt, and hopefully he shored up some of his offensive game during the redshirt season. He is a top notch scrambler. Made 2 runs at 2 NCAA tournaments, falling just short of AA...I think he gets it done this year, although 157 is shaping up to be really tough.

165: Daniel Lewis. Boom. Needs to build some offense though. Dieringer graduates and BoJo likely won't cut again. Zeke Jordan is the guy to beat, unless one of the 2 studs at 157 (Nolf and IMar) bump up.

174: Dylan Wisman. Really good redshirt year. The kid went through an absolutely brutal schedule full of NCAA qualifiers and All-Americans at open tournaments. Haven't had a chance to truly analyze him, but the results are very promising. 174 is due for a bump in talent, and almost every AA coming back.

184: Willie Miklus. 2X AA returning, although alot of the AA's are as well. Will be a really fun weight in 2017.

197: J'den. All J'den. All the competitors who have beaten or taken J'den to OT graduated this year. (mcintosh, hartmann, wellington). The Team will need J'den to smash people and bonus point his way through.

285: The biggest and really only question mark for next season. Have a few in the room, and none are very good. Romero is probably the best we have to offer right now. A redshirting freshman Pesek is mostly a 197, but could bulk and bump up. Have 2 Heavies coming in the recruiting class, Diaz and Jiavanetta. Diaz sucks. Jiavanetta has had a good bit of success, but mostly in Greco, which doesn't always translate to folkstyle success. But for now, Jiavanetta is my best guess.

3 National Champs and 25 All American seniors move on, opening the door to next season. Quick mental tabs on some of the other Top teams next year

Ohio State: Good night they bring like everyone back. They will be monstrous next season. Tomasello, KeShawn Hayes (park hill, MO), BoJo, Martin, Snyder, Mickey Jordan. Only have 2 question marks at 197 and 125/33 depending on where Tomasello goes.

Penn State: Should be a down year by their standards, but have bonus point killers. Nickal, Nolf, Retherford are their 3 horsemen. Gulibon also comes back..but quite a few question marks. 3 horses are enough on their own to be competitive.

Va Tech: Loaded. Bring almost everyone back, including 2 underachieving studs in Dance and Zavatsky. They don't have a top end Ferrari to lead the charge, but they have a solid crop.

Iowa: Return 5 of their AA's, including 3 finalists. With Sam Stoll returning to health, they will be a force, per usual. They will need to plug some holes at 141, 165 and 197.

Okie St: They lose some studs, but always have some waiting in the wings. They have a traffic jam in their upper weights. Should have 5 sophomores carrying the load next season. Kaid Brock should be back, and surely Crutchmer figures in somewhere. Heil will lead the way as returning national champ at 141.

Next year is shaping up to be a barnburner, especially if Penn State take a step back. Ohio State are the early favorites, but there are 6-7 teams who are all right there.

Thanks as always. Glad smith had the patience to redshirt some guys because I don't think I could have. We now set up nicely in the future whereas burning the red shirts might have just bumped us to 5th or 4th
