I see Pinkel staying but on a very hot seat, adjustments to the staff are likely.

I agree, but who would you want to take a look at in a year?

Now that I think of it, I would only want Petrino just so we could tell Arky fans that they want our coach.

BP can't recruit and Arky fans will tell you that.

Can you imagine the epic meltdown with the Arkytards if BP lands in the SEC?

Kirby Smart may be the most sought after assistant coach, I feel there will be better options than Mizzou available to him if he decides to make the jump.

This.

Everybody's entitled to their opinion. But here's my thought. He's an SEC guy, and would probably look favorably on staying in this league. He's ready to be a HC. I could be wrong, but I don't think he'd go to Auburn - it's a different world there, and just doesn't seem like a fit for his style. Tennessee isn't going to hire an assistant again - they will go for Gruden, or a proven HC after having been burned twice in a row. I don't see Arkansas as a better option than we are, necessarily, or Kentucky either.

Now, if Auburn is successful at hiring Jimbo Fisher, FSU might take a run at Kirby - but that's two big "ifs" - Auburn may have Chizik for another year with staff changes.

I just don't want us to go into a search, if we actually do, thinking some of the best options are out of reach. We need to at least take a run at the best there is and see if there's interest. I refuse to think Mizzou can only attract a 2nd tier coach - that's loser mentality.

I don't see that happening just yet. Maybe down the road, after he's coached somewhere else first. But less than a year ago, he put the University of Arkansas, and the state of Arkansas, at risk for huge lawsuits. While he might be popular with fans because he's obviously a great coach - I'm not sure an AD and administration would view him quite the same way. Still too risky.

I would not hire Nick Saban if he had worked at kU. That place infects people and turns them into pod beings.

I agree with you semo, Mizzou needs to at least make a run at them. There are a lot of selling points for the University. At the same time, as Johnny Poster on a message board, I can't help but think that if Tennessee and Mizzou wanted Smart and Smart was ready to move, he goes to Tennessee.

Possibly - Tennessee's AD came from Alabama. But after a miss with Kiffin, and a 2nd one with Dooley, and their misfire with Sal Sunseri as DC this year (a guy who was on Smart's staff), I just feel like Tennessee will go after a big name - not another assistant. At first I thought the Gruden thing was kind of silly, but it's sounding more and more like a real possibility. If not him, I think they go for a proven HC, maybe an NFL guy.

Doubtless there will be some names that wouldn't come to Missouri. But, we need to have the attitude that we're worthy of the best talent out there, no ifs, ands or buts.
