This is interesting kilo

quote:

The WR are not as good as last year, but they are grading out fine for the most part. Same with the OL. The coaches know the main problem is at QB and they are trying to fix it but it's not working obviously. One coach is particularly fed up, but I won't name him

So the OL and WR groups are grading out ok but Mauk's grades for the last 3 weeks have been 3 of the 5 worst in GP's tenure.

Hadn't looked over there for a while. They're all melting.

Anytime I think it's getting bad here, I just go there to remember what it could be like. Makes our bitching at each other look more like a conversation one would expect to see at the dinner table at The Last Supper.

Thin isn't surprising. Pinkel doesn't want to pull Mauk and further mess with his head. Mauk is the starter and is having a "between the ears" problem. Pull him and you erode his confidence further. I see Pinkel's point. I just don't agree. At least get Printz some reps and experience.

But what's the worst that could happen? You give Printz a couple of series. He sucks as well. You put Mauk back in, he continues to suck. What did we lose?

Several positives could happen though. Printz could perform. It could serve as a wake up call to Mauk, etc

I see no problem with this.

GP has always done this in the past, not sure why he refuses to this season.

If anything, Printz needs reps in case of injury, which could easily happen the way Mauk runs around out there.

In fact, GP has done this every year until this year. A couple series with the backup even when the starting QB was performing ok and sometimes when he wasn't.

The fact that he's not doing it suggests there's some deep problems there.

That makes as much sense as anything else.

I'm going to assume if Printz doesn't get any playing time this year, Printz is gone after the season. If I'm him, and I see the QB job was handed to MM before spring and now I can't even see the field in a game where the starter throws for 20 yards, I'd have to believe that I would never be given a chance. He gone. Better hope either Mauk can figure it out or that Lock is all he's billed to be.

Mauk has many problems. Many were apparent last season. 1. He bails out of the pocket too quickly. Probably because he can't see down field and panics. 2. When he bails out 90% of the time he turns his back to his receivers. 3. He always bails out to his left. For a righty that makes for a very difficult pass. 4. His father never corrected these problems when he coached him in HS. He was just allowed to do whatever it took against inferior HS defenses. That doesn't work in the SEC.

How many redshirt QBs are starters on D1 teams? Not many. How many see anything more than occasional mob up duty? Printz is a snap/injury away from playing. If Mauk continues to struggle Printz will get his chance. I don't even know how good Printz is or isn't. If Mauk were performing at a high level I can see Printz considering a transfer thinking he won't have a chance to see the field until he is a senior unless there is an injury. Hope he doesn't have that sense of entitlement like a past QB transfer.

Some can see it as a sense of entitlement, some can view it as not being given a fair opportunity. Probably a little bit of both.

The most popular player on any football team? The back up QB when the starter is struggling.

The OL and WR play this year has been bad. I dont know how anyone can say differently. Its just bad.

I have said before and will say it again, Mauk is part of the problem. I dont think Printz will give us a better chance to win given his skill set and inexperience when combined with the other large issues on this offense.

The coaches grade sheets seem to differ.

Weird.

Oh, you have seen the coaches grade sheets?

You honestly dont think that the OL and WR issues are real?

You seem to be turning into kind of an arse over this.

Also: Mizzou to the big ten. Done deal.
