And one of the players not pictured tweeted that just because they're not in the picture doesn't mean the other players aren't protesting too.

Geez. What kind of world do we live in? That is crazy. And a tough call, reedus. I'd be struggling for sure.

A real injustice occurred there. See, that's legit. This dude on a hunger strike, to me, isn't. Look at the Maneater timeline of events from this fall - he's featured in a few pics at various protests, with bullhorn in hand. He's a grad student - well on his way to a career in professional activism. He can't find unfair things to protest, and people to organize, if he's dead from a hunger strike. Just wait - he'll eat something when he gets hungry enough. He's too much of a narcissist not to. Just my cynical opinion.

Obviously, the players feel very strongly, so maybe there's a lot we don't know and more will come out. Maybe Wolfe does need to go. But this is just SO terrible, from any perspective, for Mizzou.

TBH semo, really not too concerned about his cause. I've seen enough of the professional protesters in the last year plus here in STL. I just take issue when people try to act as if this shite doesn't go on or try to minimize it. Admitting it goes on and is a problem doesn't mean one thinks the University President should admit to his white privilege in a press conference before stepping down. Asking for that is insane. But denying that there aren't any problems is just as insane.

Yep.

The entire team isn't just going to do this because frick it why not.

They are the most entitled students on campus.

And have more to lose.

That should tell you something.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

And just as disappointing that they have had life experiences that have led them to believe that this action is needed.

That's what's making me hope we see more come out about why they've chosen this course of action. I don't believe Mizzou is any more or less racist than any other university. If the administration is just failing to grant the demands of some protestors, well, sometimes when you ask for things the answer is no. But, if there are systemic, cultural issues that the administration can and should address, then let's get that done. I'm looking for reasons...

One time a Mexican called me the N word.

What do I do about that?

They should've gone on strike last year when people cared if they played or not.

Really weird that they didn't.

ETA: this is a pussy move by the players. You want to show some backbone, announce this on Thursday morning before the game and then follow through. Not fricking Saturday and "negotiate" over the next week.

Sure, that didn't bother you, and why should it.

But the moment someone calls Christianity a hypocritical set of beliefs.

Look out.

Well shockingly enough this is front page on yahoo news now, from the comments though. Top replied comment currently.

As a current BLACK student attending Mizzou, this is ridiculous. I'm so ashamed of this campus, and I'm so ashamed of my fellow black classmates. Our school's President has done absolutely NOTHING wrong, yet, we have sooo many simple-minded idiots without the mental capacity to understand this. They have done nothing but disrupt our classes, prevent our office of registrar and professors from doing their jobs, and now this...I hate this school, and not because of the "white man". I receive absolutely ZERO racial tension from white students at this school. We have a BLACK Culture Center, yet, you don't see hispanics, asians, or whites complaining/protesting that they don't have one. I hope these athletes lose their scholarships, and I hope the idiots who are on a hunger strike starve to death, because they are the same group of idiots who chanted "hands up, don't shoot" in our Student Center, after the death of the criminal Michael Brown. Don't believe this BS you read up here, because if you are a student here you would understand how pointless this is.

The articles detailing shite smearing and the N word being uttered a few times by a guy who clearly has an agenda to push post his Ferguson protests were pretty damning evidence though.

You should go on a hunger strike until you weigh 50 lbs. That will show him.

Goddamit man. I don't give a shite about this guy on a hunger strike.

I'm just saying that if the guys on the team think it's an issue than it must be an issue.

No more, no less.

The shite smearing and use of the n word are just symptoms of a disease that the players obviously think the university is afflicted with.

Am I there, do I know this for a fact?

No.

Would it surprise me if they and other black students had to deal with racist bullshite on a daily basis?

No.

Does it warrant this?

Sure, it's a free country, if they think it's worth it, then it's worth it.

I'm not the one putting my arse on the line, they are. I choose to recognize that and appreciate that for what it is.
