I don't know how much Mizzou pays strength coach Pat Ivey, but I'm pretty sure whatever it is, the school is getting a bargain. Ivey might have been the most impressive guy I spoke to in Indy.
quote:
The athletes are not responsible for setting our culture and our environment. It's up to us to set an environment that is accepting and understanding of our differences and be respectful of our differences. It is not on our freshmen or rookies or whomever to decide how the workplace environment is. It is on us. I take that very seriously. I select the songs that we play in the weight room based on the environment and the mood that I want. Not a freshman, not a senior, not a captain. I do it. It's my responsibility.
quote:
'Hey, That's not the right thing to say. You may have said that for your first 18 years but for the rest of your life, or at least the rest of your time at Missouri, you won't use gay slurs. You won't use racial slurs. You won't use sexual innuendo. You won't do that here.' That's on Coach [Gary] Pinkel. That's on Mike Alden. That's on me. Every day we're talking about respect. I have to do it often. 'Hey, pull your pants up. That's disrespectful to show your underwear.' 'Hey, let the lady get a nutrition bar first.' We talk about that every day."
Sounds like an impressive guy.

He is an impressive guy. Vey glad he's associated with our program. Thanks for sharing this!!
He's quite a contrast to bama's s&c coach, very different personalities. But Ivey is a class act, all the way around, and I think he does an incredible job.

That's how I felt after reading the article. Seems like a first class individual that I would take pride in.

No problem.
Unfortunately, my support doesn't carry a lot of weight.

If you're interested, here's a little more about Pat Ivey. Former DE at Mizzou who played for the Chargers. This guy is in as good of shape as anyone I've ever seen. Built like a brick wall.

Thanks!! I read that he set the strength records at Mizzou when he was a player, wonder if those still stand. Makes it kinda easy to believe in your strength coach when you see his name atop the record board in the weight room.

I think he may still hold some of them. I think Brock Olivo holds a couple too, he's coaching for the Chiefs now. Not sure about all that though. Pat Ivey has been out if school for quite a while now.

I think Justin Smith has a good number of them. Had a friend who was a senior when Smith got there and broke his Clean record---as a freshman.

Justin would be another one I'd expect to be up there, good point.
I briefly tried to find these records online the other day, but didn't have any luck.
