I just spent the last week in Seattle. I'd be there in a second.

I hear ya, bro. The dusty west is amazing to travel through, but I don't think I'd enjoy permanently living there...unless it was a vacation home. That would be pretty cool.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Short of moving to Detroit, I'd probably be happy almost anywhere.

I don't miss MO like I used to, but that's probably because my entire family has moved out here. I seem to miss it more this time of year. Fall, leaves changing, football in full swing, cards in playoffs.

I don't miss the dreary winters though. I think that's what keeps me here. I hate grey, overcast days, with no leaves on trees. I hated it when I lived there, so I know I would despise it now.

Missouri is home though, so I'm sure I'll return someday. Perhaps a house on the lake, and a winter home in Palm Springs for retirement.

Within the last 16 years I've lived in North Carolina and San Diego. There were many things I enjoyed about both places.

The one thing that I didn't enjoy about San Diego other than no seasons is that I felt the born and raised San Diegans to be fake and extremely materialistic. More so than most places.

This is not a knock on you. You're a Missouri guy, so if I were to guess, I'd bet you know what I'm talking about. Of course the longer you live some place, the more it becomes home and perhaps you get to a point where you can't imagine living anywhere else. I never reached that point when I lived in San Diego.

I'm at that point of perfect peace in southwest Missouri. My wife and I have even settled on the perfect place to retire - Table Rock Lake.

And like you, I used to absolutely hate Missouri winters. However, southwest Missouri winters are nothing like mid to upper Missouri winters. We're lucky to receive one snow. Pretty much, southwest Missouri winters are pretty tame and I've come to enjoy the ozarks even during the winter.

One thing about winter, it makes me look forward to spring about as much as I look forward to college football. When spring arrives, it's a true celebration!

That's why winter is okay in my book.

This is true, but the further you get away from the upper class enclaves along the coast, the less that becomes true. However, there is a pervasive attitude here that keeping up with the Jones' is a requirement at all costs. It's not just San Diego though. It has permeated all throughout the west coast IMHO. It is what it is, Remote don't play that shite.

I like seasons. Here we have two. Too fricking hot, and too fricking cold. There's maybe 80 decent says days combined between the two, but for the most part it's uncomfortable here.

It doesn't get "cold" here, but 40 degrees with 5% humidity is bone chilling and 115 is fricking stupid.

Yeah, this is our second trip back. First time was to scout it out for relocation. As soon as the rumor got around that we were looking to leave the missus got a promotion and a doubling of salary.

Now that the stress is there and there's more money in the bank she's looking at it with open eyes I think I've got a shot. Maybe one more trip and we'll be there.

This time we hit a Seahawks game, a Mariners, game, hung out downtown, and hit the market a few times. Didn't eat red meat once, and it was easy.

Now we're on a mission to find decent fish in Vegas.

Why did you leave Seattle?

I lived in Lacey most of the time I was there. I was in the Army and stationed at Lewis. Wanted to move north closer to downtown but that traffic on I5 is freaking terrible. Ended up settling on living south of post down I5 in Lacey.

The SeaTac metro is amazing. So much to do there. It was kind of overwhelming when I first got there. If it were not for family reasons we would have stayed up there after my ETS. I think at some point I will move back there. I very much miss being and living there.

Wow, so you were fringe Seattle area and still loved it? We spend most of our time in Seattle/Bellevue and it's awesome. We'd be looking to go to Bellevue or West Seattle, but if you really dug it from Lacey that's even better.

Down south by Olympia gets a lot more rain too, doesn't it?

bullshite, I was there last January and it was 30 degrees there, with 20% humidity and about a 20 mph wind. It was fricking miserable. By the time I got back home my felt face like I had just finished climbing K2.

Yeah, that's not cold according to hardcore midwesterners.

It's fricking cold here. Winters suck, Summers suck, Vegas sucks.

I'd go California if it wasn't for the income tax and inflated real estate from being next to the cold arse ocean.

That's why Seattle's the awesome. San Diego (The only Cali city I'd live in) is cloudy as shite, the ocean's equally cold, Seattle's a better city, and Washington has no income tax.

Yea. Loved it man. Absolutely loved it. Bellevue is very nice area. We looked around in Renton but the commutes were killer.

If you ever end up pulling the trigger down the road and decide to move there you will no be sorry.

Yea, it can. Honestly, it rains a lot in the late fall through early spring wherever you go. Its an annoying rain though. Just enough to make you notice it many times. I have had to get up at 5:30 and run for PT in that stuff for more days than I would had liked but it in no way did It make me ever think "I dont really like it here" You get north of Seattle proper and places like Everrett see some measurable differences in rain fall.

ETA: The late spring and Summer is some of the best weather you will find anywhere in the lower 48 IMO. Fantastic.

As a new resident of the "deep south", I"m loving it so far. From what I can tell, the summers might be a touch hotter, and definitely a couple of months longer. The winters will be milder. If there is a forecast of snow, I'm told things just shut down.

I love how green and lush everything is here.

Semo,

I've lived in the south. You're right...if they receive even a dusting of snow, they completely shut down. It's like they don't know how to drive in anything other than sunny weather.

Real Estate is insane around here. I just saved my cash and waited for the next big crash. It worked out swimmingly.

I hear good things about Seattle, but two of my co-workers moved down here from there. They both agree that the rain wore them out. The love the city, but given the opportunity both xfer'd here.

The bottom line is, wherever you choose to live there are pluses and minuses. Once you get to a place you're happy, enjoy the hell out of it.

I don't own my home in Las Vegas. We needed a place here in Vegas when the bubble here was blowing up. My house now would have costed $350,000 and I decided to wait it out since the city sucked and there wasn't an ocean around. (How could a house in Vegas be $350,000 when the same house in OC was $500,000? with an ocean and a view?) Same house now, $160,000. I'vemade the right move, plus we saved all that money and we're now okay.

It worked out well as well.
