If you're heading to the game from St. Louis, via I-64, the Boone Bridge crossing the Missouri to St. Charles County will be CLOSED at noon.

LINK

I'll bet a few Toledo fans are going to get pinched by this.

Detour would be to I-70

That bridge isn't that old, is it? It's just bad.

It's complicated Semo.

It was opened in the 30's. Added a span in the late 80s and is getting some more work now. It's narrow and underserved the westward expansion into St Charles county.

I've always thought that bridge was weird. There are more lanes going west that east, and that's just bizarre to me.

Yea. Its just a shitty bridge and needs to just be replaced. Probably not enough in the budget given the money sunk into the Blanchette Bridge(HWY 70) as well as the Page extension in the last 20 years.

Oh well.

It is being replaced. There is a new bridge going up directly south of the existing eastbound bridge.

I don't think anybody coming from Toledo will be taking 40, its a little out of the way. They will take the 270 loop thru NorCo then hit up 70 again. I spent sometime in Columbus and would come home that way every couple of weeks.

I remember hearing, way back in my last days in MO, 1996, the state had the worst bridge infrastructure in the country.

It would take 30 years to fix everything.

Sounds like they were right. Glad to hear everything is getting fixed. Some of those bridges....

Holy. frick.

I thought that was just a replacement for the eastbound span. I could be very wrong as I have stopped caring and using the 40 bridge.

They are adding and additional bridge that will become the new eastbound bridge, and the old EB will be used as westbound.

And they were talking about using the old WB as a pedestrian bridge but I don't know.

Holy. frick.

Here are a couple of pics of the old 2-lane bridge in Cape Girardeau. That thing scared me to death when I had to learn to drive across it. You literally had to look at a point in the distance and steer toward it - if you looked to the side, and realized just now narrow those lanes were, you'd freak out. And the worst part was that the late-night bars were across the river in Illinois!

This is the entrance to the old bridge, now part of a park...

A crash on the old bridge, way before my time, but it clearly shows now narrow it was...

The old bridge...

was replaced with this one a few years ago...
