Game 1: 12-2 - McClain threw a complete game. 0 walks, 6 K's. Freshmen Brumfield and Nelson beginning to contribute and had a good game as did newbie Sharp.

Game 2: 8-0 Houck threw a complete game shutout. Benes finally got off of some struggles. Freshmen continue to impress. Houck had 1 walk and 9 K's.

Game 3: 11-4 Tribby had a decent enough game. He was my prediction to be the third weekend starter, though I wanted to see De Oca. He's the safer but boring choice. He will lose more in conference than he wins but he'll keep things relatively close most of the time. Brumfield has been killing it hitting lead off. Benes stayed hot. Howard has been struggling but will come around.

Good to see so many guys contributing so far. If/when we can get everyone clicking at the same time, this team could be dangerous. Yes, we are better than Hofstra but sweeping anyone is difficult. Good showing so far.

After last year its been fun to follow SEC and college baseball. It's different in its structure but I'm really warming up to it now. Im thinking of taking a few weekend drives to como to check them out.

Yeah, I think if one really likes baseball and gives it a chance, they'll really enjoy it. I have been able to follow them and haven't had to drop my fanship card for the Cards one bit. It really is possible to be a fan of/watch both.

And I think we really have a few guys on the team right now that would make it fun to watch. McClain and Houck are about as different as pitchers as you can get but both are fun to watch. Both with like a 0.60 ERA. Both throw a lot of strikes.

The bats are continuing to improve. A couple of freshmen are pretty exciting to watch.

Connor's line:

Walk-Off Hit on Sunday | .476/.577/.619 | 10 RBI | 2 Runs | 3 Doubles | 4 BB | 13 Total Bases | 7-for-10 w/ RISP | 3 GW RBI

Pretty good weekend for a true freshman.

After 2 weekends of playing scrub teams.

.375 Sharp - Freshman is leading the team.

.367 Brumfield - Impressive for the true freshman. Hitting in the lead off spot too. Hope he keeps it up because it allows us to move Howard down the order.

.343 Ring - I don't like him in the 3 hole but he's been making the most of it. Doesn't really have enough pop for the 3 hole IMO.

.333 Howard - Would actually like to see him taking over games more, especially against these lower level teams, but I imagine he'll be steady through the year.

After those guys, we have some bats that show glimpses but have to show it consistently.

.269 Nelson - Freshman so he gets some slack.

.258 Benes - He leads the team with his 2 HR's but he really needs to be up around or over that .300 mark.

.257 Lavy - I don't know that he's much better than this so don't look for it.

.250 Bond - Is better than this. Need him to get over that .300 mark with his Westminster teammate.

After those guys, there's real disappointment so far.

.217 Harris - Was really looking for him to be a spark plug and bring energy. He's been pretty non-existent so far. I don't know if he's fighting an injury or what but it's not good when your name is never mentioned.

.214 McGuire - The JUCO transfer needs to step up his game or we need to look for a different option.

Other options, though, haven't taken advantage of the opportunities. Doherty was given 1 game and went 0 for. I wish he'd be given the same opportunities that McGuire has been given after repeated failures. Who knows. Maybe he still will. But with TJ I doubt it. He has to quit football because TJ will forever hold that against him.

Oh, and De Oca still has a 0.00 ERA and has struck out 100% of batters faced. Of course, that's still just 1 after 8 games.

As an ex-pitcher I'm not a fan of complete games this early in the season. Every arm has only so many innings in them.

I hear ya. A few points on the other side. Both had relatively low pitch counts. College kids get 7 days rest unlike the mlb and play 1/4 the games. Both relatively speaking coasted. McClain particularly isn't a hard thrower and relies heavily on his change up. TJ is coaching for his job and these ooc games cost an ncaa birth last year.

Having said that I'd be more conservative this early to save arms and get valuable innings for guys like de oca when you're up 12-2

Probably more important than innings pitched.

1/3 of an inning after 8 games is borderline criminal. The guy had control issues, which can pretty much only be cured by throwing so he keeps him on the shelf when there are plenty of opportunities to get him an inning here or there and see if he can stretch out to be that mid week or sunday starter. It's mind bottling.

Yepp. And he did the same thing to Alec Rash who was a 2nd round pick coming out of high school and was even drafted after his junior year despite never pitching. TJ ruined him to the point that he quit and transferred to just play a year of basketball. Granted, he also had some arm issues.
