Yeah, I got a feeling he's going to play this year. A lot.

We don't have anyone who I would say has a starting spot locked up.

Right now I'd probably go Hall, Biesel, Lee but I think there are opportunities for Miller and Brooks to break into the rotation.

His speed and athleticism at that position reminds me of Alec Ogletree

I'd go Hall at WLB, Beisel at MLB, and Garrett/Prewett at SLB. I expect Lee and Miller to backup at WLB, Jamal Brooks at MLB, and Burkett to rotate at SLB.

Id expect us to be in quite a bit of nickel as well.

Prewett and Warren seem to be the top two options in that package.

Memphis is an odd city. They churn out athletes left and right, including some very solid football talent, but Memphis HS football is the drizzling poo.

Its a basketball town so none of the high schools spend any money on football (though, to be honest, Memphis doesn't have the most well off tax base).

Talented kids tend to play for the private schools out in the county or "move" just across the border to play for the Mississippi schools. Ole Miss has boosters all over those areas which can make it difficult for other schools, including the University of Memphis, to get high quality players.

Miller looks like a good get out of a city that can be very tough to recruit for football.

Prewett and Garrett should give the defense solid production. Garrett could get exposed in the flat but making solids reads and being in the right place is better than having to rely on recovery speed every time.

I am bullish on the tandem of Beisel and Hall. If they fall in between Spoon/Christopher and Wilson/Gooden it will be a good year for the defense.

Pretty sure Miller was Mr Football in Tennessee last year. He's a stud. Got an early commitment and held off a bunch of other schools for him late.

Probably my favorite recruit from last year's class.

That is why Miller is such a great get. Memphis does not churn out tremendous football players left and right, but when they do come up with a good one you have a shot at an NFL level talent.

It's weird because Memphis is a serious hoops hotbed.

Not when you think about it. If you have any sort of athletic talent in Memphis... odds are you play basketball. There are quite a few basketball players that could easily land a Div 1 scholarship in football but they never went that route. Instead they wind up with partial basketball scholarships at lesser schools.

Memphis has never really recovered from the white flight of the 60's and 70's that took so much of the tax base just outside the city.

I'm interested to see what kind of work these guys have done on their own since signing day. A couple of injuries and these guys will be on the two deep at their respective LB positions. Brooks started adding mass immediately after his HS season ended and was reportedly around 235 at signing day. The staff would probably move Garrett to MLB and let Prewett and Burkett share SLB but Brooks would definitely factor in at MLB. Miller will have to add at least 15 lbs to handle his duties at WLB.

I saw a picture of Brooks recently and he is huge. Definitely has the size to play right away

Does he still have that great closing speed we have seen in his videos? We've had a big problem here with our players putting on weight but losing speed and endurance. Witness our 4th quarter collapses last season including the one against you guys.

It is a tough trade off playing linebacker in the SEC at times. You have to be big enough to stuff a runner but fast enough to react to a read option or pass. Brooks Ellis, our MLB from last season, had good size and tackling form (and is an honor student on his way to medical school I believe) but he was just slow enough that he was victimized time and time again by read options.

I think if this kid can keep his speed and add on a little muscle mass he could be in the two deep by the first game of the season. If your D-line improves he could be a great blitzer and clean up runs slowed down by the line.
