Still lots of questions floating around, but I have gotten some stuff cleared up. Here is what to expect to see friday, besides a blow out on Friday and Lindenwood open on saturday.
125- UR-Barlow McGhee - Spot is his. Returning NCAA qualifier. Picked 4th in MAC preseason. Should be pretty good here.
133- UR-Problems in river city. We have a returning NCAA qualifier in Zach Synon, and a stud true frosh in Jaydin Eirman. I expect Synon to take the mat Friday, just in case the coaches want to keep Jaydin's redshirt. Lindenwood open might be the de facto starter wrestle off.
141- UR Matt Manley- Moving up from 133 because he couldn't make the cut. NCAA qualifier. Should be the starter. Grant Leeth is likely also here, but he is currently injured. I don't know the extent of the injury, just that he is injured.
149- #4 Lavion Mayes - Bumping up this season after All American at 141. 149 has a very strong Top 5, so it will be interesting to see how Mayes does.
157- #16 Lavalle or UR Lemanowicz- Lavalle is a 2X NCAA qualifier, but there are rumors of a redshirt, which still haven't been cleared up. If that happens, Lemanowicz is the guy. Solid back up plan.
165- #10 Daniel Lewis - RS FR making his debut. Bonus point fiend. High expectations for this kid.
174- #4 Blaise Butler- "Just Blaise". Should AA.
184- #8 Willie Miklus - some folks were worried about him after he didn't wrestle in the B&G dual, but fear not, he is fine. Returning AA is ready to roll.
197- #2 J'den Cox - You know what it is.
HWY - UR James Romero - Struggled in some opens recently...but we don't really have any other options.
SIUE is simply below us. Only drama should be who steps out on the mat at 133, 157, and HWY. Have posted shut out victories the past 2 seasons.
Other notes: Very exciting news from Dylan Wisman. Redshirting, but took third at the Michigan St open...including a victory over the #10 ranked wrester. Lavalle took 2nd at the Michigan St open at 157, which kind of clouds the redshirt rumor. Beat a MAC foe, and lost to one in the finals.
Added FloRankings.-Most up to date, Top 20. UR means Unranked.

There are several good home meets this year and for 5-bucks, you can't beat watching nationally-ranked athletes in action.
I'd encourage you to attend if you're in the neighborhood. Good seating is not a problem due to the generally-small crowds.
Coach Smith has done a great job turning Mizzou into a respected, contending program.
Try it, you'll like it.

I agree. A bit of a step down from last year but should still be a solid contributor.

Either Synon with a year's experience of someone who is better than him. Should be a step up.

Step down at this weight because Mayes was so god. Should still qualify at this weight, but I don't expect as much in the end.

I don't know enough about the others at this weight, but if Mayes gets better mentally, he has all of the physical tools. He just seems to let up or lose focus and opponents jump on it. Overall, I'll call it a push with Houdashelt but that's probably being generous to Mayes.

Either a seasoned Lavalle or someone who's better than him means a step up for this season at this weight.

England scrapped last year, especially in the tourney, but I always felt he was overmatched. Lewis, if he holds to form, will be a big improvement at this weight.
quote:
174- #4 Blaise Butler- "Just Blaise". Should AA.
Again, an improvement over Eblen IMO, based on what little I know, have read.
quote:
184- #8 Willie Miklus - some folks were worried about him after he didn't wrestle in the B&G dual, but fear not, he is fine. Returning AA is ready to roll.
Improved at this weight as well given the year of experience.

Enough said.

HWY - UR James Romero - Struggled in some opens recently...but we don't really have any other options.
Who knows. I'll just be happy if he finds a way to qualify. But I pretty much felt the same way last year so I'll call it a push on the optimistic side.
Just my very amateur feelings based on what I read. The exciting part to me is, going down the weight classes, we are: SO, JR/FR, JR, JR, JR, FR, SR, SO, JR, FR. And the only SR from your list has a solid FR behind him. Or I hope so. Next year will be loaded and then we'll see a changing of the guard. Just my 2 cents.

Tonight's matches are said to be streamed at: www.siuetv.com

Good camerawork in the streaming. At the break, Mizzou has won 3, but Lemanowicz just got major decisioned.
Posted on 11/20/15 at 10:33 pm to Literalist
Thanks for that. Went and looked up the results.

So every Mizzou wrestler won by either major decision, technical fall or pin except freshman Romero at HWT who lost in a decision and Lemon who lost by a major decision. Not a whole lot can be done about Romero but I suppose it's time for Lavalle back at 157.

Not sure how up to date this is, but at the Lindenwood Open.
125
Barlow McGhee: W(TF) W(TF) W(MD)
Apparently McGhee continues to shine.
133
Zach Zynon: W(D) W(D) W(TF)
Jaydin Clayton: W(F) W(MD)
Looking to be an all Mizzou finals. Interesting how this plays out.
141
Will Roark: W(D) W(TF) W(D)
Leroy Barnes: W(F) W(D)
Matt Manley: W(D) W(MD) W(D)
Good showing of depth here. Good to see Roark doing well.
149
Lavion Mayes: W(F) W(D)
Mayes being Mayes.
157
Joseph Lavallee: W(D) W(D) W(D)
Lemon: L(D) L(D)
Lemon is a lemon. No way he wrestles when it counts. Lavallee hopefully has continued to improve.
165
Daniel Lewis: W(F) W(D)
Solid so far.
184
No one.
197
J'Den Cox: W(TF) W(F) W(TF)
Cox doing what he does.
285
Monaghan: L(F) L(TF)
This is going to be a problem weight all year I think.
ETA - Missed 174. Probably cuz we sucked. T. Miklus lost then who knows. I know it's early, but can one of you seasoned pros tell me if the holes we have are more glaring than in years past? Or is it normal to get your arse kicked 2 and out by kids from schools like Maryville and Lindenwood?

125 - 1st - McGhee - MD. Assad took 3rd.
133 - 1st - Clayton with a decision over Synon.
141 - 2nd - Barnes by decision. Manley 3rd. Roark 6th.
149 - 1st - Mayes - MD.
157 - 6th - Lavallee. Lemon - 1348th
165 - 6th - Lewis.
174 - 121283th - T. Miklus
184 - No one.
197 - 1st (I'm gonna bet/hasn't happened yet) - Cox
285 - 238238th - Monaghan.
Got some real issues in some weights. Maybe reading too much into a dual so early.

Well. The dual was lots of ups and downs, same with the joe parisi open (lindenwood)
125- Barlow is on fire. That kid he beat in the finals by MD was a NCAA finalist last year as a true frosh. Very pleased with his progress. Looking like a legit threat right now.
133- Synon did fine in the dual, but jaydin beats him at the open. Should be fine either way.
141- Manley looked OK in the dual, but Barnes beat him in the open. Barnes also got beat in the open. Not happy with this weight right now. hopefully leeth can get healthy.
149- Mayes- looked sluggish in the dual, and ok during the open. bumping up is a risk. still not sure if he has AA wrestling like this.
157- Lemanwicz got killed in the dual. Lavalle loses the open. got some work to do here.
165 lewis- very happy with the dual. not so much with the open.
174- bit weird not to see blaise anywhere yet...but haven't heard anything injury wise. little miklus doing fine.
184- willie looked good in the dual.
197-J'den actally had some good early season competition with a NCAA qualifier in the dual and a AA in the open. looking good.
285- Romero. Terrible on bottom. but we have no other options.

At this early point, fair to say expectations are lower than last year? Which still means pretty good imo

It is all very dependent on how guys adjust and if new guys come in, but I see this roster as a better tournament team than last year, especially if McGhee keeps wrestling like a AA.
Duals are going to be weaker, no doubt, but I think we actually might have a better tournament team.
Last years team was very good, but under performed at the NCAA's. Its weird that most of our weights have changed, despite only losing 4 seniors. Only 3 returners at the same weight from last year.
125-little worse, but not if McGhee keeps up what he is doing. 133- Better, either way. 141-Worse, although I believe Leeth can really be good, if he heals. 149- Worse. 157- If Lavalle, better. 165- Better 174-Better. 184-Better 197- Better. 285 Worse.
