Mizzou Athletics Receives $6.4 Million Pledge
Private Gift to Benefit Facility Improvements
Dec. 21, 2012
COLUMBIA, Mo. - With the holiday season in the air, the University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has received news of a very special gift. The donors, who wish for their names to remain confidential, have generously pledged to give $6.4 million to the Tiger Scholarship Fund over the next 10 years beginning in 2013.
"We are so thankful for this generous gift, and the difference it will make at Mizzou," said Director of Athletics Mike Alden. "This transformational commitment allows us to continue our growth and to be a leader in the Southeastern Conference and nationally. This gift allows us to enhance our facilities and amenities for fans and student-athletes alike, as well as support our scholarship efforts for our men and women," said Alden.
"We're grateful for this wonderful act of generosity," said Senior Director of Development T.J. Leon, who had primary responsibility for solicitation of the gift. "The belief our donors have in Mizzou and our student-athletes is energizing. As we continue our transition into the SEC, facility improvements and scholarship endowments are crucial, and these donors would like to play an active role in us reaching our goals," said Leon.

Not saying that its not positive, but dont we have people giving that type of amount yearly anyways? I mean when the K.C. Trust dropped 20 Million at once it was a big deal, but this is spread over 10 years. I guess maybe its because of the promised of 6.4 guaranteed.

Donations are like dominoes. We have to announce each drop in hopes that it will lead to more. Yeah its not huge but its still a guarantee 6.4million just have to hope it leads to more.

I'm a TSF member and that donation has trumped all of mine combined. I guess those that are dismissing this one have given more.
Don't be hater! Celebrate the success this will bring.

Not in the slightest. Its just of the big booster donations this was about what I expected or less so why was it announced? That was the only reason I asked about it. The smaller donations are more important than big donations, because while every school has big donors its the additional small ones that will catch us up to our conference competition.
My question was about the announcement. I mean our wealthiest boosters give those kinds of amounts yearly dont they? I guess the announcement kind of scares me in the sense that this is a rare occurrence and that we might slip behind further in the revenue comparison. My fears may be unsubstantiated but we will see how it plays out. That was all I was getting at.
