That is certainly a huge advantage in baseball. I don't understand why UGA is so awful though. With the talent and advantages they have, they should be a dominant team every year.

I think the problem is we are a top ten baseball program

No we are not

We have 7 CWS appearances in the last 35 years- 1 every 5 years. Thats not "top 10" program

As long as we adjust and pack heat next year. He's clear now but there is no keeping this conversation off his arse if we take several years to adapt.

I think my concern is that rather than go with the guys we actually recruited for this type of game and ball, live and die with them but at least they learn and are here for the future, we are staying with the small ball and going down with the ship.

The pitching situation is concerning too. Maybe they are, but I don't think other teams have the number of injuries that we have. Multiple guys unable to pitch every season. I'm not questioning butch but damn, there isn't a lot there this year.

I'll never forget two years ago I heard from a "credible source" that Butch was taking an HC job and we were getting Brian Oswalt to come be the pitching coach. Lol........lol

Now we're questioning not only Cohen but also Butch's effectiveness. I think Butch is very good at taking better than average talent and getting better production out of them, but I think that the greater talents he has trouble getting production out of them. Whether it be injuries or just flat out not having it, the guys who are supposed to be "it" usually don't end up being that at all.

Well appearances every 5 years and no NC eliminates you from the top 10.

LSU
SC
Vandy
Fla State
Texas
USC
UCLA
Stanford
Miami
Rice

All those would have to be considered ahead of us at this point in time. It's not 1995 anymore.

We have 2 CWS appearances in the last 16 years. It's time to let some reality sink in

Or not let Cohen become the next Polk. How about that?

I agree with some of what you say, but just because we aren't currently a top 10 program doesn't mean we just accept it and think that it's ok for the next 30 years. You have to keep pushing the bar up in every sport, every year.

I don't think his point was that we should keep Cohen if he continues to do poorly. Just that we aren't a top 10 program (in terms of success).

We are a top 10 program in terms of the money we pour into the program / fan support.

My point is that even though that may be correct, it shouldn't be an excuse. That is what we should be striving to be.

I agree we need to strive to get there- because we do have the resources to be even with the scholarship disadvantages.

If Cohen doesn't turn it around next year and get back to the Tourney- then he needs to go. 1 off year happens- but not 2 in a row. He cleaned up Polk's mess and gets a pass for those 1st two- but not now. Fix it or get out of the way

I agree with that. We can afford to have a short leash in baseball just because of the salary we offer compared to other schools.

By the way, I know nobody is leaving pro baseball for college but, Buck is only making 1.5 a year.

Unrelated; did we not offer Raphael's kid who is at NC State?

I'm not sure about an offer but we were never seriously in the game with them from what I remember.

Boy boy boy.

Isn't the highest paid NCAA baseball coach under 1 Mil though?

Just reading that makes me think of the possibilities though, however idiotic that train of thought may be.
