Frank Martin in OT with UW-Milwaukee. FIRE HIM now. Obviously a TERRIBLE CHOICE for head coach! -Bundyd

South Carolina WON in OT and Martin was likely the difference. He has head coaching experience Ray doesn't have.

Stans and his staff had connections with coaches all throughout Mississippi (especially in Jackson), Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, and Kentucky.

Ray has zero recruiting connections nor prestige to land the type of 4 and 5 star guys that Stans, Kirby, Cunningham, and Grant got.

Expect for Ole Miss and LSU (with Kirby) to get all of the big name recruits in Mississippi now.

Stans "connections" are like Gene Chizik "connections".

What connections and head coaching experience did Mullen have when we hired him?

Can I get a list of all the 5* guys Stans got during his tenure? TIA.

Rodney Hood
Renardo Sidney
Mario Austin

Signed but they were drafted out of HS
Jonathan Bender
Travis Outlaw
Monta Ellis

I'm not sure Ray will be able to sign a 4 star guy

This

We spent so much money with Stands and got very little return on our investment. Ironically, Lawrence Roberts was one of our cheapest investments- costing less than 20K- and we got an SEC title out of it.

He didnt have connections- he spent money

Horatio Webster knows the deal and said no way in hell his kid would play for Stansbury. Now we have a chance with him.

This is true, but if we have back to back miserable losing seasons I doubt the kid will look at us seriously if he has offers from Kentucky, UNC, Duke, etc

Why would any kid, ever, have chosen to play at Mississippi State over those programs? Exactly. Nothing involving that stereotype has been hurt a damn bit by hiring Rick Ray. Other than the prima donnas looking for a payday, whose single greatest accomplishment in an MSU uniform is simply showing up.

All we've got to show Horatio and Malik is the ability to develop players, improve, play hard, and develop these guys into productive young men. That will either sell itself, or it won't be enough, but in the end we have NOTHING to lose here, since he wasn't even going to give Stansbury a look.

Horatio knows where we are at State. If he thinks Malik would get coached and the program was moving forward, then he may give us a chance

I'll be shocked if we get him, but at least we have a chance now

How many Sweet 16s have all those guys brought us? How many tournament games have they lost as a significant favorite? Exactly.

None, but they did win an outright SEC title, two SEC tournament titles.

Rick Ray HAS to recruit big name guys or we won't win, plain and simple. A 5'10" pg who only has 2 offers a JUCO Forward who averaged 6ppg just ain't going to cut it in the SEC

What makes you believe that he isn't trying his damn best to do this? Fact is the talent level in Mississippi is down this year. The past two classes have been as bad as I remember seeing for MS talent. You simply don't "plug holes" with elite talent. The guys he's picked up thusfar are simply plugging those holes. They aren't the ones that are going to rebuild the ship.

This is like crucifying Freeze for the guys he missed on in his first signing class last year, given how shorthanded and behind he was with a short period of time to recruit. And Freeze had a huge advantage of having recruiting ties down here. Ray has to build those ties over time.

Dunlap is a stud, who will be a mid-high 4*. One of 3 underclassmen to make the Dandy Dozen, along with Newman and Booker. We will do fine in this regard given time IMO. The kids we are recruiting, for the most part, weren't alive the last time we didn't dominate Ole Miss in basketball. We are still the destination for basketball in this state. I'll worry about Ray's recruiting when we start losing significant head to head battles with them fairly often, although I do worry a bit about LSU, but that is yet to be seen.

He is currently rated as a 3 star on every recruiting site. He is 6'2" 160 and is essentially a little more athletic Barry Stewart.

You are being mizz. Take that paragraph and flip everything around opposite and that's what you would type about a football recruit but it doesn't fit your agenda

Ray was a shitty hire, no question about it

It may turn out ok. I will be surprised if we win 8 or 9 games this year.

Point me to that ranking on any recruiting site...that is, unless you are making this up?

No one ever gets a (ranking at all), much less a star bump after their first 4 games of their junior year though, right? Of course, they are done growing as well... I mean, how many of us grew at ALL after our 16th birthday?

The ignorance and negativity you continue to show on this is truly mesmerizing.
