So we are 1-3 through the bye week. When this schedule came out, I hoped to be 2-2. But if you had told me we are 1-3 at this point, I wouldn't have been too surprised with Kentucky, Texas A&M, and LSU being better. But Obviously I had LSU and Arkansas wrong.

So here's the deal. We have 6 games left and quite frankly we have 4. Just take out Georgia and Alabama. What is the issue?

Easy, horseshite OL play. If you can't block 3 DL, you can't block anyone. And that more than the whole scheme is why MSU has failed. With an adaquate OL, MSU would have some running plays and passing routes. But the OL can't even do this. I am at the point where I am concerned about any QB that goes back there. I say put Costello back there for Alabama and Rogers back there for Vanderbilt. But it doesnt matter who the QB or who the receivers are if you cant block anyone. And we cannot do that basic item.

So heres the question I ask you, where would we be with our alternatives? Well Napier has won big at ULL and lost big as well. I think we are around the same boat at 1-3. Maybe 2-2. But he wasnt a possibility unless we made the decision when it shouldve happened after the Egg Bowl. Joe Judge would be 0-4 rn if his coaching is as good as it has been at the Giants. Losing to the Eagles and Cowboys without Dak as an NFC East team is putrid. And Moorhead we would be 0-4 easily. After Arkanasas I wouldve said Moorhead couldve won that. But I dont believe that now. Theyre much better than I expected and kudos to the Pitboss.

Idk if MSU can fix a lot of these issues in a COVID year. And thats fine. Usually every coach gets a first year or so ecspecially when changing to a radical offense. So theres no need to panic atm. Ecspecially when this passing offense has been ranked in the 100s since 2016 and our first 300 yard passing game since 2016 occured this year as well.

How many wins are enough for a bowl? Idk idc. It takes 2 SEC wins in a normal year, maybe that will still be good enough to get to the Birmingham Bowl. But if youre hiring Mike Leach, you were not putting in all your chips in 2020, you were putting in your chips for the next 8-9 years.

OL play must improve or everything else is a moot point.
Teams are playing drop 8 while rushing 3 DL and they are getting home. That’s very tough for ANY offense to overcome.
Think Brady vs Giants in the SB or Hawaii vs UGA. Both defenses getting Good pressure with just their DL and dropping everyone else into coverage.
Next, WRs. Face it, State doesn’t have the speed at WR to beat the coverage being played with the short time the QB has to get them the ball before being sacked. I like Rogers but it doesn’t matter who’s back there with the before listed issues.

So unless State finds a right mix of OL who can keep the QB upright, gonna be tough sledding the rest of the season.

Funny how some ppl acting like Drop 8 is the end all. Go watch BYU (a big drop 8 team) get shredded for almost 500 yards by Hawaii last year. How? Because Hawaii protected their QB long enough to get their quick WRs behind it and (divided) their Safeties.

OL and WR have been main issues. A lot of our WR are slow off the line without any good zone breaking routes. Just seem blah

That's what I was saying, theyre too slow to break a zone by the time the QB is forced to throw the ball or take a sack.

It is. More aggravating is watching all of these recliner coaches scream for him to scrap the offense he's used to break CFB records for over a decade just because the OL he walked into isn't performing well.
You don't do any of these kids any justice by switching horses mid stream as Hal Mumme says. Stay the course and improve as a team.
