While his position classification is DT, his bio reads:
So, yeah, they don't even know.

I wasn't gonna judge this guy. I was gonna trust our staff. Then I made the mistake of looking at his highlight video which is only seven on seven shite and still looks like garbage.

Look one more video down. Seems pretty f'n good although I really question the level of competition he's playing in these. Alot better than the 7 on 7 video for sure...

You're right. That mop-up duty video is a lot better.

Most of it is intrasquad scrimmage

Does the fact that he put together that much footage in a mop-up role somehow make it any less impressive? It seems like it should go the other way to me.
I see tremendous raw athleticism and potential with this guy -- who can also play multiple positions if QB doesn't work out. I've had a problem with some of the commitments we've accepted early -- after watching the tapes, this was not one of them.

Of course, Engie. Of course.

I'm not saying this guy is going to suck. I'm not saying he is going to be awesome.
There is literally no way to spin this commitment into a positive though.
With Mullen's history at State with QB recruiting, there is a lot of reason for negativity though.
It seems like he has just given up early this year. Kind of like he is thinking, "I'm going to get shot down by all the guys I want, so I might as well just go for this no name and get it over with."

Cam Newton tore his heart out.
He thought he would never love again.
Then he met Cord Sandberg....who left him for another sport.

I generally only get on while I am at work. The whole no sports going on has slowed me down a bit as well.

I agree -- our QB recruiting has left alot to be desired over the Mullen years -- some of it from narrow misses and some of it apparently from his own apathy or cockiness. It's obvious that Staley was our #1 -- and we got that guy this time. So, I don't really see the problem as it relates to this class or who we take at #2. I know this much -- I greatly prefer this kid to a Ryan Buchanan type as a #2 in the system we run. Maybe I'm crazy...

I'm not saying that you are wrong -- just that there is 2 ways to look at it. I'll reserve overall judgement on this class at least until we get into the senior seasons of these players and see how it plays out.
No one flinched when Freeze had about 20 guys committed at one point or another last year that didn't sign with them -- because he upgraded talent at practically all those spots in the end. Is it impossible to think maybe Mullen is still evolving and learning to play this game as well? Time will tell...

Because the kid couldn't beat out a guy who went to play at Air Force

Are you foreign to the concept of depth? Let's say our "#1" Staley Redshirts, plays Back-up to Dak, and then goes pro in the NBA. Now we need to play this guy. Just because we got our #1(which I'm not even convinced Staley was, or should have been) doesn't mean we can pick up anybody as our #2.

No ones saying they won't have good senior seasons, or couldn't turn out well later. However, that doesn't mean their aren't bigger fish we should be going after, especially considering how small of a class we'll have this year.

I see nothing from this class to indicate that Mullen has learned anything about recruiting since he's gotten the job. If anything, this class so far has shown he's regressed as a recruiter.
