Yeah, Lindgren is the only Junior that is 100% gone. I don't see Holder leaving.

Yeah, I don't either. I sort of think Woody will stay.
Posted on 5/12/14 at 11:59 am to 17theBears
Agreed. Woody is a guy that actually could make himself a lot of money if he has a healthy senior season. He has first round talent.

Woodruff has nothing to gain. He's gone and so is Holder.

Where do you see Woody getting drafted this year? Holder?
I have no idea where they are on any prospect lists.

I think Woodruff could actually gain something. Holder you are probably right about not gaining anything, but I don't really see him having much value to an MLB team either way...so he may stay because of that.

Woodruff will probably be somewhere in the top 12 rounds.
No idea on Holder.
It's even less money if they stay next year. 50-90k this year is a lot more than 1-2k next year.
They have all the leverage. There is really no point in them coming back.
Unless they just really love college or don't really care about pro baseball.
Eta: Woodruff was a top 150 draft prospect befit this season. This is without really ever doing anything in college. I doubt this season will make him

Yeah, you're right.
I don't know their outlook on college or pro baseball, but you're right, it's in their best interest to leave. They're probably both gone.

It would be hard for me to leave if I were Holder though. Going from legend on campus, slaying all the P I wanted to riding a bus from Des Moines to Peoria where no one had a clue who I was.
Not as hard for Woodruff probably. Not knowing if you are gonna pitch at all on a weekend and turning down a decent chunk of money.

Mitchell leaving would be pretty surprising.

I think Holder is probably gone. As far as not being worth anything to an MLB club, I couldn't disagree more. He's had several outings of 3+ innings pitched and done very well in them I might add, on top of being a pretty good closer.
As for Woody, he might want to take a look at Chris Stratton.
I think Cohen may try to talk him into returning to hopefully realize his potential and maximize his earnings.
It's just going to be a difficult decision for him because he's looking at two extremes with coming back next year and a middle of the road contract if he leaves now.

Was he a draft eligible Sophomore? I'm asking because I don't know.
If not, he couldn't go. If so, he still would have leverage his junior year. Woody won't have any leverage after this year.
As for potential and maximizing earnings, this was the year for that.

Woody is a rare circumstance where it could potentially make sense to come back to school IMO. He's a first/second round talent -- and if you can break into that elite tier -- you always have leverage.
As is, it's pretty hard to imagine his draft stock being worse than it currently is. Money could get worse -- but if money was his primary goal, he was always asinine for turning down the ?$500k? he was offered in high school...

I think. Emphasis on the think.

I would assume he would still be fine if he came back and performed. There's three scenarios here:
1) Obvious one, leave. Middle of the road contract or worse.
2) Come back, suck moar, get shitty contract, if one at all.
3) Come back, beast mode, draft in the first 3-5 rounds, profit.

I just think Holder's ceiling is as a very good college player. Sort of like Frazier.

I don't know, I think Frazier will be ok. He had an outstanding year last year, he's just struggling a little this year.
I think Holder will be a pretty good pitcher out of the Bullpen in the Majors. Could be completely wrong though.

He can come back, show out, get drafted in 8-10 rounds and get $1,000 signing bonus.
You see him having a year like Graveman and Girodo last year? They may not project like Woody but they had better years than I can imagine Woody having next year, and the above scenario was them.
On the other hand, Evan Mitchell never stepped foot on the mound, projects better, left as a junior, and got couple 100k

Even as a senior? It's either sign with us or go play church league softball.
