Why open up the team boards in the future? What's the point in spending the time to create team boards if everyone will be able to post in them at some point? Why are they private now? Why not just make them public immediately?

I can't speak as to why they weren't made public immediately, but if they were to be kept private, I would imagine the admin of adding people to each team board would get to be a nightmare.

I'm kind of up in the air about it personally. I do like having the respite and a chance for fan bases to have somewhat serious discussion amongst themselves. On the other hand, I think that if the team specific boards are moderated more strictly I don't this it would be that bad of an issue. I enjoy having outside input in more serious discussions but if it just turns into a "mini rant" where everything goes with trolling and flaming then I don't understand the need in the first place.

Yes.
This is why I was little surprised when Chicken did it the way he did.
Can you image how much easier it would be on him if he just opened them up to all members?
ETA: It might have been more difficult at first by having to regulate all those new forums with possible trolls/flames.
So, it makes more sense to me now why he kept them locked to outsiders.

And isn't each team board set up with admins from that school? That was the impression I got from DC's post on our board.
If so, that makes sense. Create the board, keep it private until you have admins in place that can police it, and then open them up.

From my understanding they're much more like moderators.
They can't ban/unban but they can manage RAs.

How would they manage RAs? Would they receive all RA requests on that board and then forward the most critical requests to the Admins?

According to one of our mods, Chicken is working on giving them ban ability. Only then will the boards be open to the public.

I'll add that you went to Missouri if you add that I frequently spend money canoeing the great Buffalo River with weekend stays in Eureka Springs.

I stand by my comments made about the Buffalo River. In the Spring during the rainy season, the Buffalo is one of the very best, beautiful floats in the entire country.
However (that's right - how the frick ever!), that river dries up to nothing more than a trickle by mid-Summer...earlier if the rains don't come in the Spring.
Therefore, in my opinion, it becomes a shitty float because I don't consider dragging a canoe half the time to be fun. I mean, if you want to walk the riverbed and look at the majestic bluffs, go at it!
In the meantime, I'll be floating the majestic Current River in Missouri anytime I wish because it's springfed and up all year long.

(I did acknowledge that the Kings and Spring Rivers are pretty badass)
