I worked in the oil field in the early 70s’. Mostly in Vince. I became good friends with a work tug captain named Captain Albert. When I could I spent my down time with him either on his boat or at his house. He was a coonass. He spoke coonass as good or better than coach O. I asked him one time how he felt about someone calling him a coonass. He told me that any friend of his was welcome to use that word because it was something he was proud of. His ancestors were coonass and he had a few that lived a long life.
