Here's the cliff notes on the evolution of the "Germans" meme:

1) People used to say "Japs bomb Pearl Harbor!!" to indicate that what someone was saying was "old news".
2) In typical internet fashion, Animal House scene where Blutarski says "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" was combined with this comment: The result was "Germans bomb Pearl Harbor!!".
3) It was eventually shortened to just "Germans" and is basically a way to point out that someone is relaying old information as something new.

It means the person posting "Germans" is a bottom-feeder and incapable of original thought.... so instead, they lurk in the muck hoping for an opportunity to submit a one-word trendy tired-arse "germans" post.... and then actually thinking they're smart for doing it.

This.

Jeremiah Johnson is still

But that's not where Germans comes from.

Lol at the people who think a repost has anything to do with an Animal House quote.

The real genesis of Germans:

quote:

In the years leading up to World War II, the German propaganda machine would run newspapers of events around the globe months after they actually occurred to obtain maximum spin. Accordingly, when a post is way late (i.e. as in already having been posted), it is considered "Germans"

The Animal House explanation is bullshite and really makes no sense at all when you think about how it relates to something being posted again.
