How exactly would this ignore feature work?
I've been on sites with a similar feature and all it does is say you are currently ignoring this poster (you can still see what they post if you want)
It's really kind of pointless if you ask me.
The important question is, "Who do you want to ignore?"

I don't post on other sites, but do visit some scout forums for a couple of teams. From what I understand from those posters, it hides the post if the person is on ignore. I think the only time you will see their posts is when someone quotes them.
There's only a few I would like to put on my list, but most of them post often. So it would clear out some of the clutter when I'm reading threads.
I see no downside to adding this feature. It simply allows each individual to more easily choose what he reads.

I too would prefer the PM function rather than ignore button

Is there a reason it needs to be one or the other?
I see no relation in the two functions.
I do remember seeing some discussion with some pointing out some possible negatives with the PM system. Personally, I don't really care.
On the other hand, I can't think of one possible negative to adding an ignore function.
