Dinstinction between official and unofficial game threads?

I reviewed the rules and guidelines about tRant but I could not find any information as to the distinction between an official and unofficial game thread. I suppose the OP chooses the designation but I did not know what criteria is being used to make the distinction. Does anyone have an answer? TIA.
