A buddy of mine's coworker brought his son to the Zurich pro-am yesterday. Little guy (5 year old) went up to Rory and asked him to check out his swing that he had on video. Rory kneeled down, watched the video all the way through, talked with him for a minute or two about his swing and couldn't be any more genuine. Ended it all with a fist bump and a smile... Really cool moment to see and no doubt something the kid will remember for the rest of his life

That's pretty cool.

Tell the kid to swing with a rag in his right armpit and don't let it fall out during his swing Start em young.

The fact that this has two downvotes tells me some people can’t help but be miserable.

I think most athletes are all kind and take well to kids. It’s the 40 year old guy with a beer gut usually complaining about someone being an arse to them (and rightfully so).

Rory is a very nice guy and he has some great stories. Have been around him off the golf course a few times. He is pretty funny.

This is pretty awesome. I volunteered over the weekend at the zurich. I was a sign bearer and walked Thursday with Austin Cook, Alejandro Tosti, Raul Pereda and Ted Potter. Then on Sunday I walked with Austin Eckroat, Jacob Bridgeman, Chris Gotterup and Chandler Phillips.

It was fun to walk with them and to see how they interact with each other. These are just normal guys, that are pretty good at golf lol. They tell each other "good shot", help each other find balls, bust each others ballz and boy I thought I cursed a lot on the course lol.

Most of them took the time to shake hands with the patrons and give balls and gloves to the young kids. It was really an awesome experience and can't wait to do it again next year.

Chandler Phillips is about as normal of a baw you will find on any professional golf tour.

Respectfully we had the opposite experience with him. Left my son crushed. I'm glad they had a good experience with him though.

I have always been a fan of Rory. I hoping what he did was just out of character. We were patiently waiting in line for two and a half hours for him to finish his round and sign autographs for our sons. My 9-year-old follow him around the course the whole day chanting Rory. Allot of the players came though and signed all the kids balls while we were waiting on Rory. Huge shout out to Xander schauffele. He spent a good 7-8 minutes talking to my son and discussing his golf game with him. Then asked if we wanted to take a picture with him. Such a great experience with Xander he gained some fans yesterday. Rory and Lowry finish their round and start signing autographs. Lowry signs everybody, Rory gets 2 people from us, which were also kids, and just walks off, no sorry guys I gotta go or anything. Was extremely rude and unprofessional the was he handled it. Left my kids in tears. He looked right at us and walked off. I couldn't believe it.

It was so bad one of the guys working for the PGA ran in club house and got some PGA players pins, came across the barricades and brought them out for my 3 boys. That man gave my son and hug and apologized, told him I got these really cool pins for you so sorry that happened.

Just extremely disappointed in Rory at this moment. I'm glad y'all had a good experience with him. I wish we could say the same

Unfortunately my kid will remember that the rest of his life as well. Bummer

Ouch. Yea kind of polar opposite of the OP. Good for Xander, got him some new fans. 7-8 minutes is a legit long time for a pro to be standing around talking to one kid

Yep I was really surprised at Xander. I told him I really appreciated that, I know they have a bunch going on. Was awesome for him to take time out and chat with my son. They talked about his favorite golf club and shot etc. crazy the time he spent with him. Went way out of his way.

I really hope this was just a one time thing with Rory. Hopefully if we get to see him again it's an experience much like the OP. Just stinks my son is gonna remember that moment for a while.

Do you know how many autographs he does sign? Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of every event he plays at.

I know it’s our one and only time to see him, but guys like Rory and many of the other top pros can’t possibly sign an autograph for every kid that wants one. It’s just not reality.

But props to some of those guys that go above and beyond (your Xander story and I have seen similar from Rickie Fowler). They are truly remarkable.

Understand, it wasn't so much that he didn't sign it...... It was the way he handled it that was more of the problem to me

You would probably have to have been there

Totally get your experience and understand how much that sucks to see your kid upset.

I watched a kid run up to him with a ball and sharpie after he hit it out of the trees on one Sunday and was impressed with how he handled the situation. Couldn’t sign the ball but still made the kid feel special it seemed in the 5 second interaction they had.

All that to say I think your interaction was the exception not the rule but you’re still valid to feel how you do.

I tend to agree with you actually. Just stating that at the moment the sting for my kid being upset was driving the previous post. Like I said I hope down the line he gets to have the same experience the OP had with Rory. We just had a bad one that's all

Yeah looks like your experience was an outlier.
Our experience was completely different. He went out of his way multiple times, I wouldn't let one encounter ruin everything.
Have to understand all the signings and interactions for him daily. Can't please everyone all the time unfortunately.
He's just a guy at the end of the day, maybe he needed to call home or FaceTime his family. Who knows Shouldn't hold that over his head bc of this one encounter.
Hopefully the next one will be better. Seems like a
really good dude from the interactions I've had.

Or take a shite. I've made plenty of about faces in my life without explanation. Dude just finished walking 8 miles.
