Lol Vanderbilt is driving with ease on this shitty arse Grnatham defense. Marco Wilson aka Marco Polo has already been sighted. Kid is trash! 13 is out there as well frick these guys graduate already because you suck and consistently our bringing down our team. They must have some dirt on the coaches this is pathetic. VANDERBILT 0-6

What a melt. Honestly the guys getting picked on the most seem to be our nickels and safeties.

You have to admit watching a 2 yard slant with a 7 yard cushion is pretty gotdang frustrating.

THIS. 4th and 2 and the dude has almost 10 yard cushion. They did it all game and the defense never made an adjustment. Horrible

I don't really know what the issue is on this team right now. The front 4 seem to be playing OK. Not elite, but OK.
The communication in the back 7 is just always a mess though. That's usually what happens is they are just out of position.
But why are they always so out of position? The one long TD? The nickel and safety just blew it. Nickel jumped too far up against the run and the safety was expecting nickel to drop into coverage and so was too deep. That's a lack of communication - and it always seems to stem from play action fakes. Why are we biting SO HARD on play action fakes?
The LBs are struggling a little bit with gap stuff - that has to get at least a little bit better before Alabama, otherwise they are going to have 600 yards of offense in the SECCG.

They will have 600 yards. The key will be can we as well? Bama is great at stopping running teams, but passing will give their secondary issues. It's a tough match up for us but we have the best chance in the SEC to take them on. Will need lucky breaks though. Need Jones to fumble in the backfield from pressure or a muffed punt and not turn it over ourselves. We cant win without winning the turnover battle. That simple.

Here's the main issues:
We play way too far off of the ball and have wasted players almost every single down. Sometimes we have a safety playing 20 yards away from the action, and being that far away will always be a recipe for disaster.
I think Grantham's idea is to keep the ball in front and make them execute in the red zone, and so that's why we see this really, painfully soft coverage.
Our guys are not good at playing zone -- they are freak athletes. They want to go play man to man, and we need to start getting in team's faces. So many times this year I've seen guys maul our WRs at the line, the SEC is fine with this.
So that's what we need to do. We need to go jam the frick out of their receivers, get in their faces, get hands on, force them to run their routes differently. Just look at the LSU game last year with Pitts condensed.
They literally just grab him at the line and never let go of him for a few plays. We never do that. It's almost like we give a free release every 4 plays out of 5. Then when we play zone our guys are painfully uncertain of their actual roles (they are terrible in passing off coverage).
It's a mess.

I have to disagree a bit this year - our guys have been abused in man coverage this year, especially the Stewart and Wilson.
We had a lot more success against Vandy once we settled in to a zone more often than not and forced the QB to make reads.
The problem is that Mac Jones is not going to have any problems doing that. He will slice and dice the zone, and he will be able to run play action all day, so he'll probably have guys running open by 10 fricking yards.
Assuming Najee Harris doesn't have 250 yards by himself.
Listen - just doing some math - and yes, math doesn't work in football, but if you look at the percentage better or worse the ALabama offense and defense has done versus their competition and do the same thing for Florida, with both teams playing average Alabama destroys Florida by 3 TDs. If you have Florida playing 1 Standard deviation better than average, and Alabama playing 1 standard deviation worse than average, on both sides of the ball, UF is still losing by 1 TD.
As it stands, the numbers don't point to this being anything other than a blow out unless Florida gets better - and hey - Alabama has been getting better. They've only given up 11 PPG the last 4 games after giving up 30.3 the first 3 games.
