quote:

About the Offense and special teams:

Clay Asked him if the coaches let him help with the offense.
“Does it look like I helped the offense?”

quote:

About Mac's termination:

"It did go real fast. It surprised all of us how fast it went down," Spurrier said. "The athletic director said it clearly, he said this was about more than just the wins and losses. And, you know, during the week, the death threat charges, and they asked ‘Did it come by e-mail, did it come by phone, how did it get here,’ and he didn’t want to go into any details. "I don’t know exactly what happened, but I know it irritated a lot of the top people at the University of Florida -- trustees, Presidents, Vice Presidents. I mean, it didn’t make the Gators look very good. I think that was what started it."

"It happens fast, but you know if something is inevitable, let’s do it and let’s don’t mess around."

quote:

On Stoops:

"Oh, I called him and said if you want this job, we'll put your name in the pot," Spurrier said, per 247Sports. "He hasn't called back yet. I don't know if he got the message or not. But, I seriously doubt that Bobby wants to do it again, but that certainly would be his call. If he wanted to, I'm sure there are a lot schools that would love to have him."

Great stuff.

Saw this on GatorCountry.

quote:

This is directly from a current player on the team (defensive guy)

1. Team morale was bad b/c Mac did not establish any sort of team hierarchy. Would sometimes let freshmen dictate things, would sometimes listen to upperclassmen with no rhyme or reason. I personally considered this an odd comment, but as this player indicated "you have to pay your dues" -- right or wrong, it rubbed players the wrong way

2. Strength and conditioning "sucks" -- his words, not mine. So that verifies what a lot of people here speculated (and what I incidentally disagreed with)

3. Mac provided no "leadership" -- he said that's why guys got in trouble. Mac was good at showing up and delivering pep talks, he was good one-on-one, but according to this guy he "did not put in the time" to consistently keep up with the players. Said he was sometimes "hard to find."

4. He confirmed that the offensive coaching is bad. He said the defensive guys talked about how predictable the play calling was. He also said the receivers are not being coached to run good routes - their coach is primarily a recruiter, not a WR coach. This just continues a disturbing pattern that another player who was a WR told me -- that under both Mac and Muschamp he did not really have a WR coach after Joker Phillips left. Confirmed Franks can't make more than one or two reads right now, but believes he will be a good QB - says he has a great arm and his "head is right."

5. Overall, he just confirmed what we all knew - the whole program was a train wreck. He said that in one day Randy Shannon got everyone energetic and excited again, but from what he said there are systemic problems that will need more than a short term fix (that's my opinion, not his).

6. Overall, he was also very positive about the defensive coaches. He thinks the defense is simply hamstrung because they don't have enough numbers. He confirmed that we have guys who shouldn't even be playing at Florida starting at key positions because of injuries. He's a defensive player, so probably biased lol

This is why I think people should calm down about Franks struggles. I think his stats have been better then any other QBs that played in the same game for us beside The last one where Zaire played against backups. Grier and LDR are the QBs with the best record and both are coaches sons. This team hasn’t been coached up in years .

If we run a quick-throw offense with Franks, we'll be okay -- also some zone reads and if we're less predictable it'll help.

I think Franks shows his hand too often, though, and doesn't know the smaller things.

One game, I saw him line up a half yard behind a running back, he didn't seem to notice and I remember saying to myself: Well, that's obviously a pass.

However...

A big however...

If he were inserted into a new system, or even if we tempered the old and made it spread, I think Franks would be dynamite within a year.

I just knew if we kept McElwain's system he'd never be successful as a QB because it's clear that frick gave up on the team a long time ago.
