I saw slayer note that we were outrushed in the game, but wanted to put some context and of course, draw more attention to other statistics that stood out to me in the game.

First and foremost, stats outside of the 1 minute 30 second mark:

CHSU had 5 yards total, 0 first downs and one completed pass.

Over the entire game, Charleston Southern only completed 5 passes for a grand total of 3 yards.

So, the stats can lie just a little bit since the game was over.

Some interesting stats from OUR team now:

Franks and Trask went 19/27 (16/24 - 3/3)

Pierce had the best night on the ground, he really impressed me and probably earned many more reps.

10 different receivers caught 19 passes.

10 different players rushed the ball.

+3 in the turnover division.

SDAR's players of the game:

Offense: Franks (5 touchdowns, 16/24)

Defense: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (2 sacks, 4 solo tackles, 2 TFL -- led team in every category)

Chauncey looks fast as frick. I hope he stays healthy this year.

UF has a lot of good edge guys too

I am a little worried about the run defense from 130 Mark first half and on not gonna lie, but the first half uf was fully in control, no doubt.

The thing is, though, I don't think it was because it was 'bad', I think the game was so out of control that they just got caught sleeping/trying to get into the half. Even with that play, against our first string CHSU had 80 yards, and likely would have been dominated by the first string in the entire second half.

I'm more worried about the left side of our offensive line, they looked bad. Missed crucial blocks that ended up hurting our running backs and didn't let them pick up more yards.

I thought we played very well overall...special teams impressed me and that is a key component to winning tough games...our punter/kicker were very good, we blocked kicks, we covered very well.

Running the ball should have been better BUT I did notice Charleston Southern stacked the line AND we threw a lot in the first half to get tuned up for this Saturday night.

Still, the reaction time by Scarlett & Davis were off and contributed to a slow start running. Perrine did well later when CS was tired...but Pierce absolutely was amazing...accelerated like a jet fighter and punished tacklers to finish off his runs. He definitely has earned more snaps...as long as he understands the protection package. He had urgency to his carries.

I really liked our defense and the fact we have backups who can help us NOW. Reese is our LB bellcow and hopefully he is back this week...but I didn't like that limp he was sporting on the sideline. Jackson, Joseph, Miller, Johnson & at times Moon can all help. Trey Dean in the backfield is nasty, Gardner, Henderson, Wilson, Edwards, Stewart, Taylor & Lenton gives us a very good chance when facing a Mizzou type team.

Against LSU our OL has to be at their very best. LSUs QB didn't even complete 50% of his passes and is average. Our defense needs to be ready to blitz him because UM didn't allow much rushing except when they got tired. 3rd and longs will be a spot they don't wanna be in..no real threats at WR.

Polite, too, was all over the field. Rewatching the game, you could see Polite was nimble and most of all, this is the one thing that I've noticed this year from last year:

Awareness.

The entire team is way more conscious of their assignments and where the ball is. Everyone moves together and they are always relentless. Even if their back is to the play, their hands are up, they are always fighting and trying.

It's been a long time since I was this high on the Gators, I hope we can keep this energy up.

Gardner will be nasty at nickel. He was a good freshman corner then got moved to safety and it was awful. He is exactly what Poole was on that inside. Really excited for what he will bring that position.

Gardner, outside of Franks, might be the most improved player on the team. He was fast, physical and cerebral. He really did well last game.

Absolutely agree. Was so happy with him. He can cover very well too. If he has improved tackle form then we got a sick group of corners I'd say are right there for best in the nation.

Any time you hold an opposing team to three total yards in the air, I think it's safe to say it's a top 5 unit, no matter the competition.

Another aspect of our game that is nice to see is the overall lack of penalties. OL blocked on cadence and DL was on point. Watched enough games this past weekend to get sick n tired of seeing flags thrown constantly and disrupt games.

It was refreshing not to have flags thrown on returns. The old block in the back stuff that hurt you. No confusion on offense with play calls coming in...just crisp execution and a quick play call signaled in without hardly any issues.

Likewise the defense understood the formations and you never saw questionable looks to the sidelines. Watched so many games where timeouts had to be called because of lack of communication. This team played like a fairly well oiled machine and a lot of that escaped notice from fans...who only knew things were much different than previous teams they had watched.

HCs are always saying its the "little details" and by God our team had it. Can it be replicated this weekend? That's what I wanna see. A team totally focused and well prepared with talent is hard to beat. As I have stated before, Mullen wasn't my first choice as HC but I am now convinced he was the right choice and just might surprise a lot of us...he assembled a staff that he was comfortable with and the transition has been much easier.

Will be interesting to see how Toney gets integrated into the offense.

The OL needs Heggie healthy in the worst way.

Speed at the LB position was night and day to last year, the guys knowing their assignments is allowing them to play fast and violent. Want to see Vosean break out in a big way this year.

Heggie is going to be key to success.

I say move him outside and him and Taylor take the tackle positions. Ivey needs to be inside. He could be very good as a guard but just lacks at tackle vs speed rushers.

Agreed, Im ready to see Toney in this offense. Our WR corps is the best its been in a long time. It will also be good to see LB Reese out there. I like Vo and Moon to finally show what they can do when allowed to attack the Offense

Ventral Miller played well and so did Raynard Jackson filling in for Reese. I hope we rest Reese unless he is 100% healed. We don't need him for the next three games if he isn't ready.
