If OU and TX come to the SEC, what effect does it have on us?

If you throw all of the aggy comments on the rant out, it’s about a 50/50 split on the idea with everyone else. What say you?

Here is one of the pod ideas…

People have to let go of the old college football. It’s dead. Embrace change. Would make for crazy competitive schedules in this conference.

I think super/mega conferences is where everything is going. They have huge fan bases so they'd bring a lot of revenue with them. I like the 4 team pod idea and the potential to play each team at least every 4 years vs. what is going on now.

This is what I'd do in the NCAA games, so I find it kind of funny. Is it only a matter of time before FSU and Miami replace Vanderbilt and South Carolina?
Same with Clemson.
But yeah, College Ball is pretty much dead in the water at this point.

Going to Oklahoma & Missouri in November for games might not be so great for UF

I really do not like the idea of Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference. I really don't see Texas giving up the 20 mil a year they get from the longhorn network because if they join the SEC that is gone the first day that they are officially a member. I don't really like the 4 pods nor am I in favor of 2 8 team divisions so not sure how this will work out

I was coming here to get your guys opinion on this. I’m not a big fan of it since the SEC is already a beast as it is but if we’re headed for super conferences then this is the way to go I suppose. It’s not as big of a deal once they go to a twelve team playoff though,

Why Texas? That’s my only concern. Why not somebody else?

Huge fan base and viewer ratings. Helps with the next tv contract. Nothing more, nothing less.

Texas is absolutely a giant market, and Oklahoma is a pretty good team for the most part. It's not a terrible idea, but if we're going super conference we should probably cut a few schools, too. (Mizzou, even South Carolina.)

We will not "kick out" any SEC schools...however, I think the SEC should mandate a minimum amount of $$ that schools spend on athletics...and this is directed at Vandy...which a short time ago had an athletic dept that was depleted of funds. Remember that Vandy is a member from from the 1930s. They are known for academia...but spend crap on athletics. But they dont mind getting a slice of TV money that the SEC provides.
Ga. Tech, Suwanee and Tulane left on their own accord. Both Ga Tech and Tulane are academically better than most SEC schools and thats why they left the conference.
It wont be long before fsucks and N Carolina want in, and maybe even Ga Tech. I hate it.

I believe Vandy is sinking 300 million into their athletic facilities.

The thing is, I'd argue that you can drop the "old" qualifier. This is quickly becoming essentially a university supported professional minor league with as few as 32 teams involved. It's basically like UF agreeing to fund the Tampa Tarpons with the agreement they'll change the name to the UF Gators and attend 12 hours of classes every semester.
Maybe it will be fun too, but it's getting to the point where the evolution of college football has progressed to the point of it starting to be its own new species rather than simply a mutation of a previous generation. To me it's starting to feel about the same as calling humans just a new kind of Australopithecus. I mean, yeah, the DNA is there, but it's not really correct. You can see how they're connected, but they just aren't the same.
Then there is the metaphysical aspect of the whole thing where, while it may be difficult to quantify empirically how it is not the same, there remains a sense that it simply just isn't the same. Perhaps some of us feel that more than others, but many of us do feel that and have for some time.
On the one hand, I don't think there is anyway around what is happening right now anymore than there is anyway around the rain in Minnesota ending up in the Gulf of Mexico. Noting what has happened, at least for me, is not also arguing that there is any chance of going back to some previous era. For that reason, I'll try and keep an open mind, but I don't know that what college football is turning into will connect on the same level that it used to.

I’m all for a 9 game schedule.

College football was fun during the crazy bowl tie in system of the distant past. College football was fun during the bcs. College football has been fun in the playoff era. Just enjoy your team and don’t let the bright flashing lights distract.
I look forward to the opportunity to see Texas and ou play in the swamp.

I haven't particularly enjoyed the playoffs. I didn't even watch them this year or the championship. Not only does that make this the first year since the BCS started that I didn't, but I cared so little about it that right now is the first time I even realized it.
I moved to Gainesville from Austin, so the 2030 game was going to be fun for me, but also enough.
That people like me exist is obvious. I think if a meaningful number of exist is less so.
