20 players and 2 transfers in

13:7 bluechip ratio (65%). If you factor transfers, we had a 15:7 bluechip ratio (68%). That is incredible for a transition class. For reference, Mac's best ever bluechip ratio was 11:11 (50%) in his 3rd year. Mac had a 4:16 (20%) bluechip ratio in his transition class. If anybody is still thinking Mullen's recruiting isn't above Mac's, all you need to do is look at this stat here.

Our average player rating for the incoming class is 90.75, good for 11th in the country. That could rise depending on other teams having players that don't qualify to enroll. That would also be higher if you factor in our two transfers.

Our final class ranking was 14th. When factoring in the class size and the two transfers in who were both bluechip players (Van Jefferson was a top 125 player, and Trevon Grimes was a top 50 player and formerly a 5-star before an injury his senior year), that class ranking likely would have been on the verge of a top 10-12 class in a transition year.

I just looked at the entire roster on Gatorzone.com
This team can compete for a championship, with some decent QB play, better O-line blocking and of course some good coaching.

And better tackling! fixed!

If we fix the QB problem, all will be well. I'm not sure Championship level quality, but if we can actually move the ball and lean on our almost completely veteran (experience AND upperclass) defense, I think we will be competing sooner than possible.

QB is a huge puzzle right now, though.

Question not just for you Straws, but UF is getting beat up pretty badly on the Rant about poor recruiting how does this stack up?

Also, I heard Mullen speak at our county Gator Booster club, and his philosophy of seeking out less than elite players came across loud and clear. He believes firmly that he'd rather have a 2, or 3 star player that has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove and will bust his butt to earn playing time than a team of 4 star primadonnas that don't feel they need to put in the effort. Does the board feel this plays into his current recruiting "slump"?

The Rant says he only goes after easy targets.

Gators fans say he should be going after easier targets.

The thing to remember is that this site is pretty negative in general. I don't think the staff is very concerned right now, and it's extremely early in the cycle. If he has a successful year on the field then we'll be fine. But we can't expect to fix a 9 year problem in 9 months.

There is the problem that we had under Mac. UF needs to have a team of 4 and 5 star players with chips on their shoulders. That is what Bama has. Saban has built the program to find, get, and develop the most talented players.

2 and 3 stars on a overall basis are not as talented as 4 and 5 star players. There a few exceptions but they are exceptions that are rare enough to not beat Bama.

I do see Mullen going after 4 and 5 star players. They are showing up to campus. Just need them to sign for the good guys.

Thanks for the responses, I’m right there with ya. I do feel like the proof is in the pudding and it will take Mullen some time. This first season is much more important , in my opinion, than any other hire in my memory to get the ship righted asap. Winning and showing real progress right out of the gate is what will bring in 4 and 5 stars. I just hope he has it in him to hit the ground running and not let off the gas. Winning against Tennessee, USCe, and FSU and a close game against UGA will definitely set the right tone, no?

There's kind of this idea, too, that winning on the field doesn't effect recruiting (The Gators Breakdown went over this) but I'm calling nonsense.

I don't think Georgia ends with the recruiting class it landed last year if they had had another 8 - 5 season.

Mullen was at the worst SEC program in the hardest division and his biggest rival (Ole Miss) was cheating his entire tenure there.

That people think Mullen will end up the same way with more talent and an easier schedule just have no idea what's going to hit them next year.

The Rant is full of pimple face pukes who don't know shite. Their mommy washes their clothes and pays their bills.

They are afraid of UF turning it completely around. Mac & even some of Booms players have lots of talent. Sure, UGA is doing great at recruiting...but don't forget that Richt did the same as Smart. Richt had quite a few highly rated recruiting classes.

I'm not the least concerned about the leg humpers, we can beat them as long as we stay healthy. College football is weird and you never know what can happen to a team. Bad bounces can find any team. IMO I see Bama slipping a little, ditto UGA, LSU. USC will be tough but at home. I fully expect USC to beat UGA at home early on.

I’m interested in one thing only (aside from winning obviously) and that is how this team reacts when hit in the mouth. For whatever reason we lost a lot of physicality when mac got here. No resilience and no intensity.
That’s what I want to see out of these young bucks!
