I guess if Corral stays (I think he will), we could make Norvell work for our team and he could install his offense. But if he doesn't -- Trask is the next up. I don't think Franks could run that offense in one year, and after that we have Del Rio who isn't mobile/strong enough to run it.

Frost, Leach, please.

My issue with Norvell is just he isn't a guy I see going head to head with a Saban type mind.

Frost I do.

40-13. Frost destroyed the guy.

And that's ultimately what I'm saying. Norvell is the guy we turn to when literally no one else wants to coach us -- Kiffin included. Kiffin, I know for a fact would light a fire under our team.

Frost took one of the worst teams in the country (0 - 12) in 2016 and beat Norvel, who took a team that was 8/9 - 5 the last few years and kept it the same.

Frost then molly whopped him with a team he created almost from scratch.

There is no way, no how Norvell should be over Frost unless Frost has already given us a no.

I imagine I'll catch some flack, but I'd be fine hiring whoever wins the UCF/USF game this year.

I lived in Austin for a long time and am well acquainted with the culture at Texas, and though I have no hard evidence, I don't think Charlie Strong's years at Texas are representative of the kind of leader he can be. And yes, I did watch a lot of Texas football while he was there and remember the Kansas loss and the clock management issues. Nonetheless, I still think Strong will end up very successful at a Power 5 program someday.

This is nice. Us actually being on the same side of an argument now lol.

Just imagine if we hire Frost, Leach, or Kiffin.

We'd both be grabbing beers in celebration

Strong I honestly don't feel comfortable with after his time in Texas. Maybe it's a bit unfair, but it just is what it is. I don't think he is a bad hire, but I just want offense.

I keep hearing David Shaw as well. That hire would make me flip my lid. If we go pro style, two TE set type offense I would punch everyone in a five mile radius lol

i would need to grab a few myself.

i'm not so particular on one guy. i know we disagree on mullen, but any of mullen, frost, leach, kelly and kiffin would be outstanding imo.

i think there's a drop off after that.

i doubt we'd hire kiffin, but i can't believe a school like ole miss wouldn't. they aren't exactly gonna have pick of the litter per say, and with kiffin may end up with the best coach.

I don't disagree on Mullen.

I just don't think there is any possibility. He doesn't like UF, his wife doesn't like UF, and him and Stricklin aren't exactly buddy-buddy.

Just not going to happen, but he would be awesome here.

Strong runs a pretty spread offense, though, doesn't he?

I at least thought so watching him crush Muschamp at Louisville.

I don't think Strong was ever really welcome at Texas, and I think he was kind of the fall-guy to eat a big ol' shite sandwich.

I understand that we need an offensive coach, but seeing as there has literally been very little difference between the last offensive and defensive coach we've hired -- maybe it just doesn't matter.

As long as he brings the spread with him, I'd welcome Strong back with open arms.

We know what kind of defensive recruiting he can do.

That's why I wouldn't be upset. IMO, Texas has a horrible administrative culture, and half of the big money behind the scene hated Strong from the moment he was hired.

This is but one of the many thing Strong dealt with over there.

quote:

It came out in June that Strong lost several assistants because of Patterson's unwillingness to pay anywhere near the level of Kansas. Strong, who saw his and his coaching staff's personal ticket allotment cut from eight to four last year, fought to increase the salaries of his eight quality control coaches from $24,000 to $50,000 after last season. Texas has the lowest salaries in the Big 12 for its quality control coaches -- even behind last-place football finisher Kansas ($45,000). Strong's request was denied by Patterson, and six of Texas' eight quality control coaches who had built relationships with the rest of the staff, left to find better paying jobs, the sources said.

Holy frick.

Yeah, I'd be okay with Strong now that I've read this. Thanks for the link. I had always suspected that something bad was happening at Texas, just never did the research.
