This our strong suit no matter what naysayers would have you believe. Is a top 3 DL? No, but definitely top 10 imo.
CeCe Jefferson sr he led the Gators in tackles for loss with 13.5 and also led team with sacks with 4. And of course we need more sacks this year.
Khairi Clark sr has a lot of snap experience and he played nose tackle where stats aren't seen much. 6'1 315 lbs his job is to occupy OL and keep them off LBers.
Tedarrell Slaton soph will push for playing time at NT. He is 6'4" 360 In the scheme of DLs everyone gets snaps to keep fresh legs.
Kyree Campbell soph showed his ability as tr frosh and will probably get more snaps 6'3" 305
Elijah Conliffe soph another big body who played last year at 6'4" 317 lbs
Marlon Dunlap jr is insurance at 6'3 330
Luke Ancrum jr is supposed to move inside ? And he most likely gained some weight from his listed 6'5" 265 lbs
Zachary Carter r/s frosh may move inside eventually. He is listed at 6'4" 270 lbs and since he went to my old school, I do know he is a talent.
Jabari Zuniga jr pass rusher and had 4 sacks last year, 6'3" 245 lbs
Jachai Polite jr pass rusher with a lot of snap experience.
Antonneous Clayton jr pass rusher 6'2 255 lbs
Add true frosh Andrew Chatfield 6'2 230 and Malik Langham 6'6" 270 as DEs. Chatfield will terrorize QBs in the near future imo.

Conliffe is already taking snaps away from Clark. Ancrum keeps getting reps ahead of the other guys at SSDE, which is concerning. I'm really excited to see Jefferson and Zuniga teeing off from the outside this year.

Why? Ancrum has always been a good player that would probably be great if he got more snaps.

The UF DL in 2018 should be at least decent. Not top 10, but decent. Maybe top 25.
UF needs a couple of things to happen to be top 10:
1. An elite pass rusher must emerge. UF doesn't have one right now.
2. Guys like Slayton and Conliffe have to be good enough to start every down for Florida. Clark is a back up caliber DT as of right now, and UF isn't top 10 if Clark and Ancrum are the starters in the middle.
3. Have to play with more discipline. They were out of position a lot last year and moving to a new defensive system usually causes mistakes.
Just my 2 cents.

Of course I disagree Slayer, our DL is a strength and top 10 is where I see them. Last years offense dragged our defense down. Bryan got injured (again) and that didn't help.
Only way to tell how our DL fares is to see game action.
Slaton & Conliffe are animals. But whoever starts on the DL is going to be subbed often because of the need for fresh legs. 8 men at least will be rotated imo. It also provides backups with incentives to practice hard.

Reminds me of Sherit, able to execute well but athletically unexceptional. Him in the starting rotation likely means the players with more upside are still inconsistent. Not an indictment of him so much as the rest of the rotation.

Sherit was a home boy of mine. He never recovered from serious shoulder injury...while some may have viewed him as average...OCs spent time scheming to keep him from sealing the edge....his main objective.
Trust me...his on/off shoulder injury kept him from being a video highlight reel. When he wasn't on the field it was noticeable (or at least to those who watch the OL/DL battles), teams had easier path to run outside on us.

Reading some articles and quotes from Slaton & Conliffe makes me believe more than ever that the DL will be a real strength. Those two got their feet wet last season as true frosh. Their emergence has also lit a fire under Clark.
Conliffe has stated he likes playing nose tackle, a position of no glory because of double teams. The 3 technique gets more air time and attention. We have three players who will rotate in the nose spot and it should really help us.
