Ging winning score wasn't given up by the defense though.

And I think we win both games if spurrier runs the ball late. Why he feels the need to pass the ball when teams cut the least to 7 or tie is beyond me

It was given up by a QB that cannot handle overcoming pressure of having to lead a game-winning drive late in a game in front of a hostile crowd. And with a decent defense, Thompson would've never been in that situation. Probably Spurrier wouldn't have opted to go to the passing game either, but continue to run the ball and run down the clock to seal the game.

IMO, the total lack of defense to even make UK's offense TAKE TIME to score their points made Spurrier freak out with his play-calling. But I do agree with you totally on SOS's choice of playcall in those situations. With Lattimore in similar situations, he didn't seem to have an issue with calling run play after run play after run play. Perhaps he had more confidence in Lattimore than he has in Davis, but with Davis dominating as he was in this game, and the OL getting good pushes for the other RBs, why he chose to put it on Dylan's shoulders is very strange indeed...

Not sure if anyone has brought it up but there is just something wrong with the whole team as a single unit.

Up by 13 late vs Mizzou. Choke it away.
Up by 14 in the 4th vs UK. Choke it away.

We did win vs UGA but we were up by 11 with the ball on a possession or two and let them back in it as well.

I don't know if it's our prevent defense or what....but in those cases we seemed to have a handle on defense, and then just stop playing. The opponents all started having gains of HUGE chunks of yardage, and seemed to score at will. The downfield targets were most often all alone and score untouched...

Versus Vanderbilt:

After Vandy kicks a FG at the end of the 3Qtr. to pull within 27-24, USC goes on a 21-pt. tear to seemingly seal the victory and extend our lead to 48-27. In the midst of that was a lost fumble by Thompson that gave Vandy excellent field position on our side that they cashed in with a FG. But the final Vandy possession they go for 4 quick easy pass completions for 70 yds and a TD where it looked like our secondary was already in the lockerroom celebrating the win. Up to that point we had shut Freebeck down to 7-16 for 98 yds, 0 td and 1 int. But we let him and Vandy romp at the end.

Versus Missouri:

Our defense was pretty much stifling Mizzou's offense for several drives going back to the 1st quarter:

3 plays, 0 yards
5 plays, minus 8 yards
3 plays, 0 yards
6 plays, 21 yards
3 plays, 9 yards
3 plays, 2 yards
5 plays, 20 yards
3 plays, 5 yards
3 plays, 3 yards
4 plays, 19 yards

all consecutive possessions for Missouri. We were up 20-7 at that point. Then:

3 plays, 68 yards, touchdown
9 plays, 51 yards, touchdown

And that was game.

Versus Kentucky:

We were up 38-24...and then:

7 plays, 47 yards, touchdown
7 plays, 75 yards, touchdown

That's 122 yards on 14 plays, an average of 8.7 yds per play. Almost all of them by Kemp in the Wildcat. UK had been held to just over 300 total yds (316) up to that point, which for our defense was excellent.

And then the pass INT of Thompson deep in our field - the HUGE question is, why would you opt to throw deep in your own territory in a tied game with under 3 minutes left to play? At most levels of organized football, it's the perfect recipe for disaster, unless the opponent is useless against the pass. But in this game, UK was useless against the run. So why pass there and then?

But our defense has had some HUGE breakdowns in late stages of close games. IMO that's a issue of game-planning, and game preparation: poor coaching for such late scenarios...
