I didn't notice any big moves b/w the Post Spring and this one.

gamecockcentral's posted depth chart

wait...was Chaz 3rd or 2nd string? I think he just passed Fleetwood.

Our starting OL are really big.

ChaZ elder got bumped up a spot

Matulis at 3rd string behind Zandi has me thinking he's going to transfer or quit after this season

I have a lot of respect for Mike, he came in his first year and competed his arse off. Not sure what happened, but I hope everything works out for him.

Without a doubt. I hope he bounces back but the shoulder injury he had might have taken the fight out of him. He was only listed at around 260 in the post spring depth chart which caught my eye and now this just makes me wonder if he'll be on the team next year.

Completely speculating on my end

Elder was initially listed as depth at CB when he first joined the team, but he has a body that's more suited for safety...he was moved to FS this past spring to add depth there in Gurley's absence, and impressed there. He has a safety's body, and is a special athlete, so the coaches will find a way to add him to depth in the defensive backfield somehow. IMO, the fact that they're moving him to SS from FS means good things about Gurley's timeframe for returning to the team...

Matulis is a product of our poor OL recruiting prior to Coach Elliot joining the staff biting us in the arse, unfortunately. In 2011, we only had one single returning OT with any prior playing experience in Kyle Nunn....we had RS-freshmen Gibson and that's it: Shell was too raw in passing situations and his shoulder surgery for a HS injury wasn't healed in time, and Sport was too raw in all areas.

Matulis showed to be the most complete OT along with Gibson, and with Rok Watkins moved to Tackle, it was hoped that Gibs and Matulis would only be backups. But then Nunn was lost for the season after 4 games, and Matulis seemed more comfortable at LT than Gibson...

Apparently his shoulder injury really hampered his physical development....he's got a body type that seems tough to put on a lot of weight, unless he puts it on through heavy weight training.

He's like Travian Robertson, or Quinton Richardson: his metabolism is too high to put on weight from the trainer's table. Also like Ladi Ajiboye when he got in that legal trouble in the 2009 off-season, and was suspended almost the entire off-season: he went from 300 lbs to 270 in 2 months, all of the weight loss from losing muscle mass while banned from working out...

Matulis seems to want to give it one last try, but he's too out of shape and undersized right now to rate any higher standing on the depth chart. Hopefully these final 2 months or so he's able to build back up and at least provide some experienced depth. if his shoulder heals up entirely, he could come back next season closer to top form...

Could Mike Redshirt this year? Would that even benefit the him or the team in the long run?

I sincerely hope you're right.

Pretty sure he hasn't used his redshirt but with the limited scholarship spots we have I'm not sure he gets one

I was very impressed with Elder in the Spring Game, kid seemed like he was always in the middle of the action. Definitely a bigger body back there in the secondary, actually pretty close to Richard Sherman's size.

Glad to see Kadetrix getting the nod at S thus far as well, remember watching a spring practice a couple years back where he really stood out and seemed to have that all-out playing style that Swearinger had, while being a pretty big dude in his own right.

He hasn't used his RS, but I'm not sure what you mean....Matulis holds one of the scholarship spots on the team regardless of whether he redshirts or not...

Your OL is fricking ridiculous.

That might end up being the best OL in the country, they've got both size and experience, and yalls OL coach has a pretty good reputation for coaching kids up.

How tall they are is crazy. They might make Mike Davis look good.
