Bentley's twitter has himself as RB Coach at South Carolina, seems pretty official to me. Mentioning since it hadn't been confirmed officially yet.

Bently is already recruiting as well. Muschamp asked for 2 planes this afternoon to be reserved for the week so he could already start recruiting players and coaches. He is hitting the ground sprinting, and that's what we needed.

Muschamp called 5* DT Rashan Gary's mom and they talked it out.

https://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2015/12/will_muschamp_calls_upset_mother_rashan_gary_jennifer_coney.html

quote:

Will Muschamp says he spoke to the upset mother of the nation's top recruit after she called him a "pure liar" for leaving Auburn to become South Carolina's coach.

quote:

Muschamp says he called Coney on Monday morning to clear the air.

"At the time, the University of South Carolina had not contacted me," Muschamp, who was first contacted by South Carolina on Dec. 3, told AL.com. "There's two sides to every story and it's a little frustrating that that was said because at the time no one had contacted me about a job that I was interested in and I was interested at being at Auburn and I had full intentions of staying at Auburn University.

"I was perfectly content and very happy working with Gus Malzahn for a long time. Then when somebody calls you about a head job in the SEC, at the University of South Carolina, it certainly will appeal to you. I did call her (Monday) morning and she understood that."

He's recruiting great talent and putting out fires all in the same day. This guy has a solid work ethic.

Why Spurrier just said frick it one day .... when a mother can call a man a liar and have it published by a newspaper who really just hopes to profit from the drama.

And what gave the woman the outlet in the first place - to publicly question a working man's honor? Why her son is a teenaged college football prospect of course.

The list of comments under Bentley's twitter handle ... wow, just wow!

Well, we need a couple of big time running backs in this class. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

From JC:

quote:

I have confirmed South Carolina has reached out to Gamecocks alum and Florida DL coach Chris Rumph about being a part of Will Muschamp's coaching staff.

I am told that Muschamp may very well go with two defensive line coaches, so this doesn't mean that Tracy Rocker is off the table.

Assistant coaching/staff hires are very fluid, so I would caution you not to interpret the two DL coach thing as set in stone.

I dunno ... but the JC comment from Cayce above seems plausible.

JC and Kornbult are both friends with Corey Miller, who is good friends with Rumph so it would make sense that someone is talking to Chris.

Chris has wanted to come home for a long time and he may want to bail from the sinking ship he is on right now in Texas.

I just hope he is ready to make the proper mea culpas to the powers that be ... because for him to come here that is what it will take. He was not exactly friendly to his alma mater while recruiting for Clemson and while at Bama. There are still a lot of hard feelings for how the kid from Orangeburg was handled, from O-Burg to Millington, TN and then back to Clemson ... by Rumph. What was that kid's name? Merling or something like that? A DE, Rumph coached him at O-Burg, then took him to Millington, then brought him with to Clemson when the kid had been a SCAR lean from the get-go. Not to mention how he negatively recruited against us for Clowney, et al, while at Bama.

ETA: BTW, this was my perspective during the press conference yesterday ...

Has there been any word on a S&C coach? Really miss Fitz and its evident our guys this year were below average in strength, seeing as how they out and out couldn't tackle, got drug a few yards at a time, or couldn't break tackles, and got balls ripped from their hands.

IMHO that is the biggest position to fill at the moment. Losing Fitz was the beginning of the end for us in terms of S&C. They cannot afford to retain Joe Con IMHO, unless he is the absolute only option I suppose. But everyone is tired of his antics ... he really has to go. No one respects him.

I think he's going to stay in the NFL, even if it's not with the Texans.

Jeff Dillman is the name to watch for our S&C Coach right now.

He currently works at bama under Cochran.

You beat me to it!

Had no idea Rumph was at Florida now ... thanks for the update.

Should that worry us? He's skipped around quite a bit. Clemson-Bama-Texas-Florida all in what, the past four or five years? Shades of Ellis Johnson.

He could be a really great hire. Right now there are 2 drawbacks. Former clemson coach and he's worked 4 different jobs the past 5 years.

The clemson thing would only be a drawback if he was one of the coaches who actively negatively recruited against us, and he was going to go back into some of the same schools with the same HS Coaches and now try to say, "just kidding, SC is great."

The multiple jobs can pretty easily be explained. He was at clemson and got an offer to go to bama, duh, of course he'll take that. Then he wins 2 Natty's there. Texas then offers him the AHC title and more money, so he goes there. Florida offers him the same $ and he takes that job to get back in the SEC and maybe b/c he saw that texas is falling apart.

Rumph would check a lot of boxes as the DL Coach at SC:
Former SC Player.
From SC originally.
Multiple years of SC Collegiate and HS coaching experience
Multiple years of SEC coaching experience.
Coached ELITE DL at alabama and florida, lots of players in the NFL, or will be in the NFL, r
Rally good stat lines/high performing DL units
