Screw the gumps. Some of those comments were just plain disrespectful. I suppose it makes them feel better about themselves.

And lol at what they think our ceiling is on paying our next coach. $4 mill/year? No, gumps, try $6 mill/yr. They will shite their pants when they find that out.

So Tanner has developed a 7 person panel to assist with the HC search...one of them is none other than Marcus Lattimore.
Gotta love that news!!! Marcus will DEFINITELY look out for the best interest of the University.

Probably the smartest decision Tanner has made yet.

There's a new HC candidate who is really interested.

Eric Mangini
Currently the DC for the 49'rs, Former HC for the Jets and Browns. (those are shite franchises, so don't hold that against him.)
Was the DC for Bellicheat and the Patriots as well a year they won the Super Bowl. Only 44 years old. Only has NFL experience though. He's part of the Bill Parcell's and Bill Bellicheck Coaching Tree.

I don't know if he cracks the Top3 right now, but I think he's another legit candidate. Definitely better than some of the other Tier 2-3 candidates we already talked about.

Great interview with Justin Fuente from a few years ago. This newcaster called it, before Fuente started, the newscaster said that he was going to awesome and he has the "it" factor.

I heard about this as well.

A lot of Gamecocks playing/drafted for the 49'rs. They seem to like our guys, apparently. It's certainly an interesting option.

He's been involved with several Gamecock players the past 4 years at SF (Lattimore, Ellioington, Busta, Davis, Dylan.) but there isn't a correlation in his coaching tree/experience to SC.

He's made a lot of Pro Bowlers over the years and his defenses were legit most years. I think he still holds the Jet's franchise record for most Pro Bowlers in the same year. As I said though, probably not going to crack our Top3, but he's a noteworthy guy who's interested.

I posted this in the recruiting thread, but Marlon Character flipped to Auburn. fricking thug U.

Also, Whitfield tweeted yesterday that he was told by someone that we didn't show our team any love in Columbia. WTF? Wouldn't doubt if Auburn wants him, too, and Muschamp with his stellar character is doin' Auburn work.

Well if he meant the City of Columbia then he's not wrong.

I think what he was implying was that our fans didn't show the team any love...not the city exclusively. I think he said Columbia bc that's where we're located. Could be wrong, though.

While 247 is name Tom Herman as the leader for the SC job right now, I think that it's still pretty open and could be anyone in the Top3's race.

I am going to watch the Memphis vs Houston game now and feel like it's the Super Bowl for out job.

We really need Richt to stay at UGA one more year.

If the report by Feldman is true and people behind the scenes at UGA are starting to push for him to be gone after the year it could really affect our coaching search

I think they go after Kirby, or some other already established HC/former HC in the NFL or CFB. I don't think they move on Herman on Fuente. IF they do decide to remove Richt, this year (which again I EXTREMELY doubt they will,) then it would behoove us for them to do it later than sooner. We can go in and recruit their commits with the new staff.

Remember, it's not just Richt that would be gone, they'd lose their Asst Coaches too. The same uncertainty that plagued us the past 2 years would hit them quick and 2 months out before NSD. From 11/29 until 1/30 each recruit can get 6 in-person off campus visits from coaches (no more than 1 a week though.) HOWEVER, there is a Dead Period of no contact allowed b/w 12/13 and 1/13. If we could have our staff in place before some other staffs in place, we'll have a clear advantage in recruiting (especially going after the commits at other schools who are having coaching turnover.)

This is why it was a blessing that Spurrier retired early this season. We've already started the HC (and Asst Coach searches through back channels of leading candidates, basically them finding out who'd they bring with them,) while other schools are still wondering if they will keep their coaches or not.

I love the Gamecocks, but I also think I can look at reality.

Right now, I don't think Miami is a better HC job than SC. I think $, fan support, cost of living/quality of life, conference affiliation, etc... make the SC job more appealing now. If this was several years ago, before the SECN$/media contracts and the success of the past 5 years, then there is no question Miami would have been a better job. Their fan support is a complete joke, they have no home field advantage.

The Va Tech HC job is a really good job. There are a lot of parallels from what happened to them and us in the last couple of years in regards to losses, bad coaching decisions and recruiting. Our advantage will again be $, conference affiliation and media exposure. Their fan support is really good (much better than Miami's.) However, I'm not overly concerned about what they're going to do. For some reason, their fan base has a hard on for Chad Morris, so they can have at it. I would've though Bud Foster would have taken over or Shane Beamer, but just like us, that might depend on how the rest of the season goes for them.

There are a lot of rumors circulating that Smart has said he is interested in the VT job.

He is, it's not a rumor. Kirby is looking to make the move to HC this season. He won't wait 3-5 years for Saban to retire. He thought he was the leading candidate for SC 2 weeks ago. Now info is coming out from "sources' that he's not. Therefore, he's positioning himself to either make himself more desirable for the job he wants (i.e. Carolina in the SEC) by showing that he has options, and/or getting a backup plan together if he's not offered his first choice job.

If Kirby ends up being our guy, there is NO WAY he picks Va Tech over SC, he wants that SEC HC position.

Like I said earlier in this thread, there will be a lot of reports and information and sources that say this guy is leaning this way or another, it's all positioning. It's all about $ and getting the job they want. We won't really know anything until pen hits paper. There are 3 more weeks of speculation and positioning.

Could be a political move like Chavis. Saying he likes VT and getting Tanner to buy in more. There's a ton of positioning right now from all sides. We have another 5/6 weeks of this.
