I hadn't ever really thought much about growing ranks on this site. Honestly, it didn't matter to me if there were 5 or 50 Gamecocks on this board. I found this board b/c I enjoyed talking smack to bulldog fans on another site and then that site merged with this one spontaneously one day. I think I was the only gamecock on that site. I came to this type of forum for the smack talk. If I want recruiting stuff, I look at PK or 247. If I want rah-rah stuff, it's definitely CT.

I think organic growth is the best, and really good content or unique dialogue develops such growth... but we haven't organically grown our ranks since I've been here. There's about the same # of posters, some have gone, some post less, some post more, and we have some 'newer' posters.

If you or anyone would really like to see the ranks grow, you need to know who to target. It's not just about getting more people to sign up, it's about getting 'power users.' Those are the people who would check the site multiple times a day and post much more frequently. These people usually have addictive or compulsive types of personalities, I am probably one of them. However, you're probably not going to be able to get people to leave post counts/profiles from CT, pay sites, or social media gamecock sites unless this site proves to have a unique value to them.

So what does this site have that others don't?
1. Ability to talk smack to other teams' fans.
2. One of the most expensive categorized forums out there.
3. Not many ads (at least not an intrusive level)
4. gifs work well in this forum code.
5. Less than 100 Gamecocks who post online know this site exists. (guessing, but I think that's right, so there is exclusivity, but it's organic exclusivity.)
6. ?????

CT and the Pay Sites provide controlled environments for pro-Gamecock dialogue and some unique content in recruiting. Those people may want that, they may not wish to engage in smack. Twitter/IGM and the like allows a lot of power users to talk smack to other teams fans.

One of the best options to attract new users might be through pro Gamecock social media groups like Gamecock Born&Bred, CockySwagger, etc.... What would need to be done would be to link threads/articles from the SECrant onto those pages to show that this place exists. Doing so on CT may work as well, but I don't know if it will work as well. However, there are obviously power users on CT ( I was one of them for a while), familiar with the way forums operate.

Even with all that said and if someone actually wanted to use the info above to execute a plan to increase the # of Gamecocks on this site, we might want to access ourselves:
- What do we hope to gain from more Gamecock posters?
- What do we want for the SC Board on this site? How would more people impact that goal? Do we even have or need a goal/objective for the SC Board?
- Who is going to do what to grow membership, if that's what we want? Is it really up to the group, could anyone just go and recruit?
- What content could be posted elsewhere to link back to this site, that would really engage people and make them want to post here?


Whether we have 5 Gamecocks on this board, or 5000 Gamecocks on this board, I'm good either way. I'm still here to mainly talk smack to other teams, get other team's recruiting scoop, laugh at some funny content, and enjoy the dialogue of any Gamecocks who choose to post here.
