I dunno. I have many talents, but I'm not a soothsayer.
I know where we are right now. We need to stockpile as much talent as we can and keep it here as long as we can. Unless Jake gets hurt (and let's hope he doesn't), Hilinski should redshirt.
Lets assume, that RH get's to play in 4 games this year and takes a redshirt. Let's assume that he's then named the starter for next year. That's still significantly more experience that Jake Bently had HIS freshman year when his redshirt was pulled From then on, we went 4-3.
Honestly, I'd like to see BOTH Hilinski AND Joyner get significant playing time in 2019. I surprised how quickly som many Gamecock fans want to write off Joyner. Like the middle inning relief pitcher who comes in for a change of pace, I think he could keep defenses on their toes when they have to prep for more than one thing. Plus I don't want to lose him out of our program...

but you can make a prediction right?
Will we beat UNC this year? yes or no?
Will we ever have a team with a loaded roster like Clemson or Georgia?

Actually, one of my superstitions is to never predict the outcome of games before we play them...
And I pulled an edit on you with that post. Sorry about that (I felt like I didn't clearly explain my point and wanted to expound on it. )

IBG, here are my thoughts on this. I don't know if we ever will have an elite roster again.
BUT, with proper planning, preparation and effort, you can still beat teams with a better roster than you.

I agree.
There's always an upset.
But in the long run the teams with more talent are the ones at the top.
People like to harp that stars don't matter but when you look at the last couple national titles, they've rarely had recruiting classes below 20. shite it may be higher than that.

No one can predict the future. But stockpiling talent like Lonnie said is key. Muschamp inherited a program with a less than 10 person blue chip ratio. Our standouts were 3 star players playing above the usual. from there we went to 15 percent, 25 percent, 30, and now sitting around 35. Thats monumental growth, and we need to keep going in that direction because depth in the SEC is what is killing us.
We are heading in the right direction with talent, but it takes time. And what you dont wanna do is throw a freshman in the fire and frick him up. I honestly think some of Jake's jitters and inconsistancy might stem from is coming in as a freshman, and getting ROCKED by NFL talent.
Once we have enough talent, then you have to look at other issues like coaching, gameplanning, consistency in staff, etc. Thats why i think after 2020 season we will have to really evaluate Muschamp as he will have enough talent to do well, and that isnt an excuse anymore. We would be around 40%-45% there which is what spurrier had.

I think it's more that we still just don't have any talent. Put Jake on a team with our 2011-14 teams it may be different.
We had 2 guys in his time with real NFL talent. One guy couldn't stay on the field for a full season and then this year was surely hobbled.

So in retard terms to make it easy.
if we finish 8-4 2020, is that good or bad?

8-4 would be borderline. Did we lose an easy one to a team we should beat?
Did we beat a ranked team?
I would say 8-4 buys him another year though

I don't think he's losing his job unless he finishes with a losing record.
And I'm not talking 6-6 with a loss in the bowl game losing record either.

I would say 6-7 after 2020 might get him fired. hed be out of excuses for that. he did that with a team with 3 4 stars as the max

I don't see it happening
Especially with Ray as the AD.
