Back when I was a member of CockTalk I sat back and watched the hiring of Lane Kiffen and laughed. NO seriously I have a UT friend that had to by me beers for a year based on my prediction. He was so excited by that hire and with the recruiting Kiffen did he grew more and more confident. I remember saying to him the day they hired "enjoy your new used care salesman buddy". It got me thinking about my prediction for Butch Jones. And I honestly don't have one yet. But I will say that the UT fans immediate attitude change wreaks of Lane Kiffen.

Butch was their 6th or so choice. He will have all the resources and support anyone could need to be successful for the first 2 seasons. If he doesn't get to 8+ wins it will fade and he will be gone in 4 years. I don't think he'll blow the season, but if he wins 4 or fewer games in any season (even the first, he will be gone.)
I think he could win 6/7 games this season, and we'll see what happens from there. I would put the possibility of him being at UT for year 6 of his would be tenure at 10% and 30% for year 5.

Hard to tell what Butch will do.
When he replaced Kelly at Youngstown he did well. (Replaced by our OLine coach BTW.)
When he replaced Kelly at Cincy he also did well.
He's not replacing Kelly this time and this is the SEC, so time will tell. (This has the making of a poem.)
Or will they play like hell and totally smell?
Will he sound UT's death knell?
... nevermind, it's not flowing.
Here's the bottom line.
UT's decline allowed us to rise IMHO. It was the perfect storm. Now Jones has to be Saban, Spurrier, Richt, Muschamp, Stoops and Franklin in order to climb the ranks. What UT fans are looking for is improvement, enthusiasm and the old Vol swagger, none of which have they seen in five or six years now.
In the meantime Jones seems to be recruiting well. Can he coach'em-up? Pull off some upsets? I dunno, I just hope it is not against us.

I think it's the opposite.
Our rise fueled their decline. We were slowly shutting them out of cherry picking our recruits (which spawned the infamous Kiffin quote) and now we have really closed down our borders. I'm willing to bet UT won't be the UT of the past for a long time.
Their state does not produce a lot talent and now that they can't cherry pick recruits, they are fricked.
They will be competing (at best) for fourth place in the East for the foreseeable future, IMHO

Could be, Fulmer was fired after losing to us.
