Deeprig9's Clampsin Topic

So I don't have to keep making topics about Clampsin, this will be the last one I start, and just use this one for the next few weeks.
Question- Who will be their starting center? I heard or read it is a true freshman caucasion kid that weighs around 270#.
I find this hard to believe, it seems to me if you didn't have anyone else to start, you'd cross-train a backup guard or something. I just don't see Dabo starting a small caucasion freshman against a UGA team that is going to put a 330# juco nose tackle in his face.
What's the truth?

Ryan Norton, RS Soph. I think their backup is freshman though, but I don't know anything about them. I can never read clemson's OL's jerseys to see who is on the field or who is playing b/c they're usually on their backs on the ground.

Their OL was crappy 2 years ago, and they were crappy again last year. They are returning 4 starters from last year though, so at least you gotta think that they'll be better than last year.

Thanks.
I just looked him up and read a few things about him, he sounds like an overall good player. Recruited at 270#, but is now up to #285 and plans to be pushing 300 by season.
That takes a little bit of wind out of my sails. I thought we were getting to spear our nose tackle into a pimple faced scrawny, trembling, gimp.
Now I've got to find something else to hang my hope on. Something specific.

Sammy Dropkins dropping a wide open pass that would have been a TD

No, he scares me. He scares me like Lil Wayne scares Bill Oreilly.
Give me another significant matchup that favors UGA, one on one.

I wouldn't be worried at all, the only good game he's had against quality competition was against an 8-5 Auburn team in 2011. The rest of his big stat days are against Wake, Maryland, and NC State.

Sammy dropkins will drop a TD. Guaranteed. I'm pretty sure the Clemson secondary is really young if you're still looking for a different specific matchup that favors UGA.

I am looking for a weakness in their OL so TB doesn't have all day to do whatever he wants. UGA's defense needs a tip on the spear. Who/what is their weakness on OL?
Posted on 7/27/13 at 1:40 am to deeprig9
Probably center. The past two years it seems like anywhere on their line was a weakness

If I were you, I'd look at the "your WR's vs their DB's" angle. Clemson ended the year 71st in Passing Defense and 62nd for Pass Efficiency Defense.
Y'all were 30th in Passing Offense and 2nd in Pass Efficiency Offense.

In other news, Cocky Talk wishes me happy birthday, even though they banned me a few years back.

CockTalk bans everyone a lot of our regs use it because its good for info. But its all pussy over that way just sunshine and cinnamon squirting out of you or they cut you from the team.

I googled Clemson starting lineup 2013 and this is the best I could find, the whole damn roster.
Obviously I know Boyd and Sammy will be starters, the rest I have no idea.
Can yall help me out in putting together a likely starting lineup for Clemson?
Clampsin 247 roster 2013
Tigernet helped me a little bit but banned me, even though I was 100% respectful to them.

Tough to analyze defensive match-ups. Our DL is so much better and our system different enough that the weaknesses aren't going to be the same.
My thinking (unsure) is that Clemson doesn't see a lot of 3-4 in the ACC. That could help, if true, bt confusing their OL w/ your blitzes.
Your most favorable match-up is your OL vs their DL (never one of their strong suits) and your WR's vs their DB's. They've had lots of injuries in the secondary so they may be a bit better this year. They also brought in a 5* CB recruit who should see the field.
Their LB's haven't performed like they thought they would back when they landed two 5*'s in the Watkins class. One was injured for awhile, the other has been above average. The injured one isn't starting yet, I don't think, but he's back on the 2-deep.
Going back to OL v DL, they've got a talented DL in Vic Beasley. He feasted on some weak ACC OL's but y'all should be able to keep him in check. If y'all can establish the run I don't think Clemson has a chance. The formula really is simple: no 3 and outs, control the clock, keep your D rested. Their D will break under the physicality of your OL and RB's. UGA can't try to finesse this game, bring some of that SEC weight to bear.
If you let Tajh get set he's going to eat you alive. He's much like Murray in that if you can get pressure, he loses a ton of his effectiveness. He's a bit of a gamer and if he gets loose in the backfield he can hurt you, but your LB's are talented and athletic enough to keep him in check.
Clemson is great at playing from ahead, so you don't want to go down early on the road w/ an unproven D. Unfortunately, this prob means Grantham drops a lot of LB's into coverage and y'all don't pressure Tajh enough to get him rattled. We'll see how the first few series go.
Home field advantage will keep this closer than it should be, but UGA by 10 wouldn't surprise me.
EDIT: I see no reason to worry a/b their RB's, unless Tyshon Dye comes out of nowhere. You will need to account for Watkins getting the ball out of the backfield. Their other WR's are speedy as hell, too.

That's pretty much word-for-word how I feel about the game.
That's why I'm grasping at straws for a particular matchup that will favor us, that we can exploit.
Sure, their secondary might suck, but ours is also very young with only 1 corner returning, who will be playing nickel because out other nickel is suspended, so our two starting corners will both be true freshmen. So, yeah, UGA recievers vs Clemson secondary is a plus, it's really a wash because our secondary is also very young.
These types of games where both sides look like good matchups on paper at the skill positions, they are always decided on line of scrimmage.
I am confident in UGA OL.
I am confident in UGA DL, but would feel better if I knew of a weakness or two on Clemson OL.
Sort of like how yall came after our freshman Theus on OL last year, the whole line of scrimmage battle that Carolina won, on both sides of the ball last year. Find a weakness, and exploit it. Pound it.

I know they're young but UGA's DB class last year was insane. I expect nearly all those guys to make an impact and have big time SEC careers.
I know it's alot to ask them to step in and cover an All American like Watkins and some other quality WR's like Hopper, etc. which is why you have to get pressure, but I think they'll hold their own.
I will go ahead and predict one of the young guys tries to blow up a WR or make a tough play on the ball, misses, and a Clemson WR takes it to the house.

You are right, but I also expect the opposite.
The only thing I can point to, without specifics, is that everyone expected high scoring in the UGA Spring Game because of our offensive weapons and young D's, but it was a defensive showcase with low scores. Haters of course pointed at the fact our offense isn't shite, but we know that's not true, so we have no choice than to think the best 11 of the 22 defensive guys between the Red and the Black teams, starting in a real game, are going to be pretty damn good.
I just don't like relying on intangibles. I will continue to seek a specific weakness at LOS for Clemson.

No thank you. It's good to get some info from there but impossible to actually have an intelligent conversation.
