Comparing this hire to Auburn's previous HC hires

2020 - Bryan Harsin - Boise State - 69-16 in 7 seasons at Boise, previous HC experience at Arkansas State
2012 - Gus Malzahn - Arkansas State - 9-3 in one season at Arky St, previous HC experience at high schools
2008 - Gene Chizik - Iowa State - 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State, no prior HC experience
1998 - Tommy Tuberville - Ole Miss - 25-20 in four seasons at Ole Miss, previous HC experience at a high school
1992 - Terry Bowden - Samford - 45-23-1 in six seasons at Samford in D-1AA, previous HC experience at Salem University
1981 - Pat Dye - Wyoming - 6-5 in one season at Wyoming, previously 48-18-1 at Eastern Carolina
1976 - Doug Barfield - OC at Auburn, no prior head coaching experience
1951 - Ralph Jordan - assistant at UGA, no prior head coaching experience
1948 - Earl Brown - Canisius - 11-5-1 in two seasons at Canisius, prior experience as HC for the Merchant Marines in 1945 (5-3) and two seasons at Dartmouth (8-6-1)
1944- Carl Voyles - William & Mary - 29-7-3 in four seasons at W&M (didn't play in 1943 due to WW2), three prior seasons as HC at Southwestern Oklahoma State
1934 - Jack Meagher - Rice - 26-26 in five seasons at Rice, prior HC experience at St. Edwards
1930 - Chet Wynne - Creighton - 32-25-6 in seven seasons at Creighton, one season prior HC experience at Midland
1929 - Johnny Floyd - Auburn line coach - one prior season as HC at Middle Tennessee (7-0, go Johnny)
1928 - George Bohler - Mississippi College - 17-9-1 in three seasons at MC, no known prior HC experience
1925 - Dave Morey - Middlebury - couldn't find the record quickly so this is where I'll end
All of this to say, on paper, this is the most accomplished head coach hire in Auburn history

The crazy thing is to look in that context at the only two who brought us national championships

I said the same thing in another thread. Harsin has the best resume since Dye.

Harsin has the same # of years as a college head coach as our previous 3 hires combined.

Shug was an Assistant at Auburn before the outbreak of WW2.
He had more experience than just that of a Georgia Assistant Coach. He actually ran the Freshman program at Auburn.

People say everything is a cycle.
Dye got here to successfully fight back against Bama - shot us up as a program. Bryant's career ended shortly after.
