I have seen many return guys fair catching punts inside the 10 yard line.

In the past, I thought the coaching rule was put your heels on the 10 yard line and don’t step back to catch it. If it’s over your head, it will bounce into the end zone.

Has the general coaching approach changed?

Probably because any fair catch inside the 25 is spotted at the 25 now.

I totally missed "punt" in the title, and was thinking KOs. Mostly because i haven't noticed it on punts, like I have on kicks.

That'll teach to to drunk post on a Thursday. I leave it up as a testament...

You think coaches are instructing players to call fair catch inside the 5?

Punters have improved, at the college level I would have them catch it at the 7.

No. But I see them back up and catch them on the 7-8 yard line.

It just happened in the Bucs vs Panthers game.

It's just players caught up in the moment and wanting to catch the ball instead of moving out of the way.

I have seen that a lot lately and I don’t agree with it. I do think though punters are better and guys are a little faster so coverage is better which may make it easier to down the ball.

In many cases, yes. It started several years ago.
