Like any other Braves fan, I have been very critical of the bullpen this season- especially when they blew that 6-2 lead against the damn Marlins back in August.

But it looks like our relief pitchers have been getting better. I'm becoming more confident in Melancon and "Skywalker" Jackson, despite my disdain for them just three or four weeks ago. They appear to be closing games out fairly well as of late.

Swarzak sucks and has got to go. It's a guarantee he will give up a run or three when he strolls out to the mound in the 9th.

yes, it is much improved because Anthopoulos has done a complete overhaul.

well it was silly for you to have disdain for Melancon in the first place. He had 4 shutdown performances in a row after coming to Atlanta, then had 2 bad performances over 3 outings, and then has gone back to being dominant again. Why would you have disdain for someone that has 2 poor outings in 15 overall appearances?

Really? Since coming to Atlanta, Swarzak gave up 1 run in 5 May appearances, 0 runs 12 June appearances, had 3 straight outings to close out July where he was bad (gave up 3, 2, and 1 runs), but his first 4 July appearances were all 0's. In August, he again had 12 appearances and only gave up runs in 3 of them. In 2 others he allowed an inherited runner to score.

how exactly is that a "guarantee" that he'll give up a run or 3 when he "strolls to the mound"?

Swarzak sucks

Swarzak's role has been reduced with the three BP acquisitions at the trade deadline. But for a while Swarzak was basically the only guy in the pen that could throw a strike, much less get an out. He saved the Braves arse in a few games during a time the rest of the bullpen was shite. I don't think he will be relied on heavily in crunch time in the playoffs, but he made a positive contribution for this team this year in my opinion.

I think the Braves bullpen is top 10 in MLB quality now. Fairly balanced team now with great hitting, above average defense, above average starting pitching, and above average relief pitching.

It's not an elite team, but it is now a team that is good enough in all phases to be a tough out and, with a few lucky breaks, beat anyone in the playoffs.

AA has done a fantastic job improving this team last offseason (Donaldson has been worth every penny) and during this season adding Keuchel, the 3 relief pitchers, and several strategic depth additions even after the trade deadlines as injuries have hit. He is GM of the year in my opinion.

I could see a scenario where Swarzak is left off the NLDS roster, not necessarily because of his "suckiness" as the OP put it, but because of a numbers crunch.

AA has been fantastic. He did exactly what he said he was going to do with the financial flexibility. They gave some young pitchers a chance to do their thing and thing fill in the gaps where needed.

I love that we saved some money to account for the injuries that took place. With the Nats hot streak, we could easily be in 2nd Place right now if not for the new guys stepping in and keeping it going.
