I wouldn't say they have no connection and no say in what goes on in those aspects. And a lot of that depends on the coach and how much involvement he wants to have. Some coaches want nothing to do with it, others do like to be involved

Which is why I added a "most every program" caveat.
I can say with 100% certainty, under Freeze and Luke during the Bjork years, coaches had no say or interest in the marketing, sponsorships and social media of teams.
That said, a true grade A douche bag was the Assistant AD in charge of the effort for Ole Miss over the same time. Not sure if he is still there, but hope his time is short if so, as the personnel on his staff have carried his arse far enough.
