It wasn't just Saban, it was the SEC as a whole that developed that reputation. Remember, this happened in 2013. At that time, you had Florida (2), Alabama (3), and LSU (2) all with 2+ national titles in the previous 10 years. Auburn had also just won one a couple of years prior. Arkansas had also recently won a division title and was a top 5 team 2 years prior.
