East Memphis is very nice. It's actually not hard to avoid the ghetto of Memphis. I lived there the first 25 years of my life and have never had any personal encounters with crime. If you want to be edgy and live in gentrifying areas, then sure you may have some problems.
Regardless, the city of Atlanta isn't any better than Memphis. The people who are worried about crime live OTP in and/or in other counties surrounding Fulton. That can really be said of most cities in the South, and we all know the reasons why which everyone always dances around in threads like this, for obvious reasons

East Memphis is fine. I did not find it to be particularly interesting, pretty, or fun. Ultimately my opinion is that Memphis is a city you have to choose between living with crime and living with strip malls. And I’d rather there be a third option.
