It really isn't a stupid question per say, people are just having knee jerk reactions because you mentioned race and that's what they do here.
Whether people want to acknowledge it, there's still a stigma in the sport regarding black head coaches on a level higher than high school. Hell, it was only recently where it became widely acceptable that a black player could be QB. People don't want to call it what it is and say "resume" or "talent" should be the hiring factor, and they should... the problem is that a black coach could have the same resume and still be passed over because of racial bias.

Or it could just be that the elite head coaches in college football happen to be white. The law of large numbers does lead to that fact after all. Black people are between 12-13% of the population. The percentage of coaches is 10.77%. It’s not terribly far off from the pure overall demographic. And also, just because you can play football does not mean that you’re fit to be a head coach. That’s an important reminder when the argument of the percentage of players’ race is brought up.
