The Jimbo contract is overblown and misunderstood because the number seems so big. Here is the reality.
Jimbo isn't getting fired for at least the next 3 years barring cause. We would be fools to fire him prior to that anyway because there isn't a better solution.
In 3 years we would still owe Jimbo a ton of money in theory but let's assume we fire him. Almost certainly we agree to some terms that lowers the amount. Even if not though A&M is making about $50 million in profit right now annually. At the same time we are due for 2 MAJOR pay days in the next few years.
Pay day 1: New SEC contract with Texas and OU joining. Long term cash on its way with that and with the SEC likely to win another Natty this year and who knows when that ends that amount just keeps getting bigger.
Pay day 2: The seat options for the New Kyle were for 10 or 15 years depending on the seats. Those options are going to start coming up soon and you will have those renewals at even bigger numbers. Oh, and A&M will be adding the Texas game back into the season ticket package. With 500k Living Alumni and 14k new ones being created every year and an average salary well over $100k for those alumni that means a LOT of money coming our way. Oh, and they are going to redo the South End Zone 2nd Deck to make it into another high dollar area. All of that sucks for the regular guy fan but the program is going to make some serious, serious money in the next few years and for the long term.
So writing a check for $60 million and then going out an buying another bigtime new coach is very doable if need be. My guess is the program is going to rocket past $300 million in revenue in the near future. It's mind boggling the amount of cash we have to work with and no, it hasn't ever been this way before.
