You don't think being at Auburn for only a year had anything to do with that, do you? he didn't have time to get his own players, or change the culture. I mean, we generally save evaluation on head coaches for longer than 1 year for a reason.

Go back and check his defenses when he was at a school longer than a few months.

His defense at Auburn in 2007 was 7th in the nation, I think.


All that said, when a coordinator becomes a head coach and then goes back to being a coordinator, sometimes the game has passed them by and they are no longer as effective. (Pellini and Brian van Gorder come to mind off the top of my head) I'll reserve judgement on Muschamp IF Lanning leaves and IF Muschamp becomes coordinator.
