Hence, Alabama has the right to claim 1964. My beef is that Alabama people don't like to "share" the title and try to claim them as their own. Most national titles are SHARED. Also, Alabama claims some national titles that most schools wouldn't touch w/a 100-ft pole if they were in the same position (exception is Tennessee for 1967 -0- sheesh!).

Example: 1941 (finished 9-2), 1973 (lost to Notre Dame in bowl game, ND consensus champ), 1978 (lost to USC)

I don't like that Alabama claims 1941; however, the rule the University has stuck to is AP/UPI poll from 1950 on (no other trophies matter). If the AP or UPI had awarded the trophy to Arkansas, then it would be a shared title.

As for 1973, ND was not "consensus" - they did not win the Coaches' poll that season. Alabama shares that title with them.

1978, split as well.

the other polls were also highly recognized and whichever team won the CONSENSUS of all the polls was generally looked upon as the one who more rightly could claim the title.

This is not even accurate. Making things up and then declaring them as fact is something a politician does, but holds no bearing in the real world.

Look, my signature is a tongue-in-cheek joke but lacks enough characters to spell it out, but basically it's like this:

If Alabama claimed titles like Alabama claims titles, Alabama would have 32 national titles. Damn Alabama!

In other words, SOMEBODY in 32 different seasons felt Alabama was worthy of a national title.

There are a frick ton of trophies sitting in a closet somewhere in Tuscaloosa declaring Alabama national champs during years they chose not to claim it because of the 1950+ rule. Get over it.
