same Chadwell that 7-4 at charleston southern after 4 years and the same that has only had 1 good year so far at Coastal? same one that had losing record in 17 as intern and 19 after he took over?

Way more flash in the pan than Napier

FTR i think both are going to be very good coaches in the long run but give me the one who has slowly upgraded everythign about the program they took over. One that understands the process.

I never said that Chadwell wasn't high-risk, or a potential flash-in-the-pan himself. The point was that he's at least showing what you WANT to see at that level of football: he built his program to the degree that they're now a ranked team that gets national exposure, and now they're steamrolling the opponents that they SHOULD be steamrolling with CONSISTENCY. That is a trait that every elite-level P5 coach displays: very few lapses in focus against lesser opponents. Last season was Chadwell's first/only "big" season, but they have at least opened 2021 with the same level of play that they showed last season. Meanwhile, Louisiana through 2-games looks very underwhelming given what Napier has supposedly "built" there in Year 4.

What I see out of Napier is a guy who has built a team to national exposure (just like Chadwell), but who's team seems to consistently lose focus - which has resulted in at least a half-dozen games that were WAY closer than they ever should have been. So how exactly does that suggest that he "understands the process"? That is the exact opposite of what you expect out of someone like Nick Saban. You think in Year 4 of "the process" that a Nick Saban coached team comes within a field-goal of OT against a school like Nicholls? Something like that is a very very bad trait for any coach who you are paying big money to succeed in a high-pressure, elite conference job (ie: LSU, USC, etc).

2020 presented the perfect example of this loss-of-focus. They beat Iowa State by 17 in the season opener (they clearly caught them napping), and then they immediately follow that up by needing to go into OT to win by 3 against Georgia State, then they win by just 2 the very next week against Georgia Southern, and then they finally lose to Coastal Carolina in week 4. They somehow turned a huge high in the opener into a scenario wherein they almost went 1-3. The very next week following the loss to Coastal Carolina they barely beat UAB by 4 points. Even if you look at their 27-20 win against Arkansas State last season, you find that of Arkansas State's 7 losses on the year (they were really bad) that the 7-point loss to Louisiana tied for only the 2nd worst loss on their season. Most of the other teams that Arkansas State lost to had a much easier time against them.
