Yeah, well, and then there’s the Kentucky football fan’s experience. Imagine having your team’s biggest rival right on campus. The apathy of UK basketball fans towards the football program held it back for decades. It took humiliating long-term losing streaks to Tennessee (26 straight) and Florida (31) to show UK’s administration that something had to be done or we were going to become another Kansas or Duke. So, in a perserse way, we owe thanks to UTk and UF.

Just in time, hundreds of millions of athletic dollars were spent on the program and the ROI is starting to show results. Also, the NIL may level the playing field for many P5 programs. Everybody is 0-0 in the new era of college football that begins this week-end.

So take heart with UK fans that the future can be very different to the past. For those who are willing to spend the money, and UK and USC fans certainly are, the future promises to be bright. We lucked out by being in the SEC when things changed and we will reap the rewards that go with being the Cocks and Cats of the Walk.
