Is Texas High School Football Overrated?

I’ve always heard about how great Texas High School Football is. How they have 10,000 people at the games. How HS football is a way of life there...
I’ve also heard that UT gets the first pick of the kids from Texas. If so, why do they have an average record of 7-5 over the last 10 years?
I know the state of Oklahoma doesn’t have a tone of talent, but they seem to own Texas and do far better overall as well.
You would think with the most money and the most talent available they would dominate.
Is the talent in that state just not what it’s hyped up to be? What gives?

Because Texas doesn't get first pick anymore. And they have wasted more talent than any team in college football. Hell, there are quotes from recruits about it

Is it UT? Or are the recruits from Texas overrated?
The other schools from Texas haven’t had a ton of success either?

The math is rather easy. Texas produces around 300 D1 players a year. The Top 100 is split between Top 30 program offers from all over the country. It's impossible to build a recruiting wall around the state.
The state has a ton of 3-5 star caliber kids and in no way is overrated.

Why would those kids not want to go to the flagship university that has all the money?
Why would the top recruits from a football crazy state not want to stay in that state in general?

Seems to me that either Texas High School Football is overrated
OR Texas as a State is overrated and the good recruits just don’t want to stay there
Which one is it?

Texas and Florida do produce a lot of football talent. But both states are saturated with Division 1 teams and both states have a lot players who choose a school out of state. So the high school talent is not over rated.

I was gonna say no b/c there have been some really great football players play high school ball in Texas. But, I think that the vast majority of Texas players get bumped b/c they are from Texas. Also think that the whorn commits also get overrted a ton as well --- prime example: LINK /
Dude was complete dogshit.
If he was from Smackover or Rison, Arkansas he would at best been a low 3 start and every report would have said he was an athlete better suited for tight end or even defense.
But he commits to Texas and he's a 4 star future All-American.

Is Texas High School Football touted as the best in the country? YES. They even make movies about it
Is UT The Flagship University in said Football crazed state, and have the most fans and the most influence in the state? YES
Does Texas have the most resources of any school in the country? YES
I would think the school with most fans, influence, and money would get the best recruits
And if they get the best recruits, they should win the most games. BUT...
Texas has an average record of 7-5 over the last 10 years
Does that mean Texas High School Football is overrated...?
OR are a lot of Texas recruits now leaving the state?
And if they are, does that just mean Texas in general is overrated?

Ask the kids. The question wasn't about UT, it was about the UIL talent.

Varsity Blues is one of the best documentaries ever!

Their problem is the out of state teams (and aggot) that come in and take kids out from under their nose all have superior NFL draft production than they do, and that's an easy sell.

The stadiums are great
The crowds are awesome
The Coaching staffs are a lot bigger than most states
The bands are awesome
The football is good, but not great. I am used to a lot faster high school games in Mississippi. Texas has a lot better coaching overall than Mississippi though
